Hey guys,

Great site. I am just getting into helis so this is great for me. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how you normally go about landing. I have been reading about autorotations and working on those in the sim, but how do you land without an auto?

I have not been flying in idle up mode and when I get close to the ground, in a ground effect hover it seems that no matter what I try the heli kind of just drops. Now it is only dropping a couple inches, but this cant be the way to do it.

So in the sim, I tried landing with idle up. Same thing it kind of drops after a certain point.

The smoothest landings I have been getting in the sim is like this: I get into a ground effect hover. Stabilize and hit throttle hold and it softly sets down. Like I said, any other way just kind of drops.

How do you land?

Thanks a lot,

-Mike

Look through the rest of the forums to check your throttle/pitch curves for the type of heli/tx/rx you have. You should be able to land by just gradually lowering the throttle, so i suspect your pitch/throttle curves may need some adjusting.

This is a great site and i am sure you will get all the help you need!

Im a noob and it's been a minefield of information..

Good luck

Hi thanks for the reply. The heli I'm using in real life is a Blade CP, unfortunatly it has a TX that you can't really program. In the sim I tried a variety of different helis and to my knowledge they should all be setup correctly and they do the same thing too. So, I'm thinking it has something to do with me.

Thanks,

-Mike

I have the BCP as well. Are you using the flat blades? Do you have the Bell mixer upgrade? It sounds like a pitch problem or sticky collective.

Yeah, I'm using flat blades with no mixer upgrades. I do remember when I first got the heli last year (I stopped flying it for a couple months and just started again) that I did a fix that was on the internet for sticky collective. It had something to do with reversing the way something in the head was put in. Don't recall exactly what it was though.

Thanks,

-Mike

Try adding some positive pitch... half a turn at a time.

Collective Management!

It will take practice to set the bird down easy. Your blade will not auto so you can't do that with it. I don't know which sim you are using but you will not feel ground effect with them. Practice is the only thing that will help and time.

If you are dropping to the ground you are adding too much negative on the stick when you are trying to land. Keep trying it will eventually come  .
