Has anyone tried this gyro? It looks interesting but would like some feedback from anyone who has tried it.

There is one thing that concerns me that is listed in the Specs.

Operating Voltage - 4.5 - 6 volts (Operating Voltage Guarantee 5.0 volts )

If someone is using this gyro with a 4.8 battery pack. There will be times when the supply voltage drops below 5 volts. This will be due to loads that are being applied to the battery. That operating guarantee voltage of 5 volts is telling me that the gyro will probably reset when the voltage goes below 5 volts.

The gyro would probably be fine operating it on a regulated power system or a 5 cell nicad or nimh pack.

I have tried it today and i am VERY IMPRESSED !!

To make a long story short, after a 5 minute setup at home on the bench..

First flight, took off into a hover in normal mode to check mechanical trim, saw that i needed a bit of right (mechanical) trim, but figured i would try it in HH anyway, to see how good it does even when the mechanical trim is a bit off, so i landed and switched to HH.

went up in HH, tail was 100% locked, so i started throwing it around in 3D and the tail was super locked through anything i managed to throw at it. So i figured it was time for a real test.

Went up to about 250 feet, and did a terminal tail slide on the tail, leveling out at 3 feet in HUGE speed right into a HUGE backwards loop, in which the tail was super locked in, and came out just as it came into the loop - dead straight !!

I proceeded to do 3 more flights, in which i checked the piro rates consistancy through piro speeds changing chaos manuvers, and all worked perfect, this thing simply works.

One thing to note - Logictech mentioned the need to use a lot of expo to get a feel similar to Futaba GY611, which is definitely true, i started at 50% (they mention 50-60%) and i think i will add a bit more. This gived a nice smooth feel around center yet still yeilds a super fast piro rate, at an extremely constant speed.

I would highly recommend it !! :noteworthy

I totally agree...i just dosent make sense to get a 611 anymore....

I LOVE MINE!!!!!! Plus it costs a lot less. Easy to set up and like you said it is locked in all the time. I like it better than my 601's. I also have their 2100 small gyro for the trex 450 and it is leaps and bounds better than the 401. You can adjust the travel in both directions instead of just doing a limit which affects both sides with one adjustment. It's like a miniature 601 for the trex. I would reccomend it for anyne especially if you are on a tight budget.

Are you all running the Logictech servo with it or a different servo.....

I bought one and put it on my Raptor 50, but I only left it on the machine for one flight. I liked it so much I took it off the Raptor and put it on my Stratus. It performs beautifully. I'm using the Logictech servo and it's at least as fast as any tail rotor servo I've ever used.

Thanks, Bob.... I've been looking into one for my T-rex 600....

Where can I see the specs of this gyro/servo combo, and who sells them online??

I3DM ....You are adding expo on the + side to the tr in radio? Can yourself or someone elaborate on expo in the radio for tr with this Gyro/Servo combo please and thanks.

Small question on my side...

I do have the 6100 on my Futura...

I am *very* impressed about the rate-mode, in which I already have a steady tail as if I was on HH with my little SJM-400-birdie (which has the 2100 installed...).

But here comes trouble:
After mechanically centering in rate-mode, I went to HH.
Basically all goes well...
Except...
From time to time the tail will twitch a bit from its position as if someone would have steered it that way... It's about two inch "guesstimate" on the tail, and the tail's always going left...
Even when sitting on ground with hands-off-TX, the tail will start to wander...
No Revo-mixing activated, Tail-Trim centered...
I have been on sensitivity of 60%, lowered to 40% and it didn't get worse and didn't get better...

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Daniel

PS: Just had an idea, since I only have 20%Expo dialed in yet... I'll see tomorrow what happens if I increase to 60%Expo... Maybe if the stick of transmitter isn't quite calibrated to the center position when centered, then sometimes - with temperature, humidity and all - there might be indeed a steered input...

OK, I take that back... ;)

Dialled-in 60% Expo and Problems are gone...

It appears that there is a minimum turn-rate in HH-mode...

I am real happy, it's real steady...

Cheers,

Daniel

I also tried the Logictech 6100t yesterday and I must admit it's a GREAT gyro... with the right settings it acts just like a GY601 but with a more constant piroette rate!

It has a lot of pro's:
- Lighter than a GY601/611 (40 grams!!!! the weight of one servo!)
- Cheaper!!
- Less cables
- No mini screwdriver needed to make adjustments

Cheers,

Richard
