Does the X9503 use the same battery/plug as the X9303?
I currently use a Dx7 with lipo and volt mod and absolutely love the fact that I can go weeks if not months without charging.
I am considering going to a new x9503 but will want to run it with a lipo, I know it voids the warranty etc...
Anyone tried this yet? I just wanted to start with the obvious of does it fit :).

Looking for the same issue and I found this, I'm not sure about it, and also collecting some opinions:

That is what I have in my DX7. Its fantastic.
I was just curious if the X9503 would have any problems with Fitment, plug, etc
Guess I will find out when mine comes in :).

Please let us know how it goes. I'm considering a battery upgrade as well when my X9503 comes mid-March.

I still recommend a NiMH pack, using either Enerloops (2000 mAH) or the Sanyo 2700 mAH cells.
NO downsides. And with the Sanyo 2700 cells, longer battery life than with the lipos. :)

Can you share the link for Sanyo 2700 mAH?

Im using this in my 9303, works great, has similar voltage to the stock NiMh, and you can charge it safely through the stock charge port with the stock charger, plus it can stay charged up fully all of the time without worrying about damaging it

Cassette????
Both those companies sell assembled packs ready to pop into your Tx. You have to "custom" build the pack on their site. But they supply with the proper connector even.

Cassette????
Some radios like the JR 10X, 12X and the Futaba 9Z use a plastic case for the battery cells. Then there are just contact pins inside the tx which mate up with the female ends inside the case, so it's a "push in, pull out" to install or remove the battery pack.
I guess there may be a better term, but most folks refer to this plastic case as a "cassette" and the various radio manufacturers won't sell you just that case. PTFlyer may be able to purchase a "cassette" from say Radio South? Not sure since I know they do Futaba radios, but not sure about JR.

Someone here in HF mentioned some places that will put Enerloops into the cassette.

Might even have been me as I sent one of mine out to Sin City Jets and they installed the cells inside the cassette for free, NoBS will do the same thing. But I already had several battery packs/cassettes, the OP I guess wants to keep his original JR pack "just in case" and would like a spare cassette. Horizon will only sell you a complete pack and they're about $80.00 or so complete.

I have been using this battery on my DX7 for two years now and it has been great. I always discharge to 9.0 Volts and charge at 0.25 Amps (1/10th of capacity) for a "forming charge" and never had problems.
Every once in a while I cycle it for 3 cycles.

+1. On the Hyperion LiFe pack. Got mine from Ready Heli. It fits in my 9503 without any issues.

Can this be charged in the radio, or does it need a different charger?

you can use the stock mimh wall charger that comes with the radio because the battery has a regulator that will not allow overcharging. you can also take out the battery and quick charge it with a normal lipo/life charger
Quote from Hyperion
The PCM device protects the pack from over-voltage charging. It also allows the pack to remain installed in the transmitter, and then be charged with the standard NiCd or NiMH wall-charger which comes with most transmitters.
(wall chargers up to 12V max for 3S packs, or 8V for 2S are usable)

So what's the best drop in replacement pack for the X9503, the stock battery is crap.

IMO, a pack made from Sanyo Enerloops or the Sanyo 2700 mAH cells.
You can get them from Cheap Battery Packs or Batteries America.
My Tx has been not charged at this point for over 4 months. Still has 10.6 volts and is ready to go fly. This is with the Sanyo 2700 pack.

Looks likeit. Pick the 2700 mAH.
On the Cheap Battery Packs site, they have pictures of the cells. :)
You want the JR flat WHITE connector.
And yes, you can use the stock wall wart. I do. Just realize, the first charge will take a while. :)

I just ordered a JR 9503. Why? For the past 2-1/2 years, I ran a lipo in my DX7. It ran fine for those 2-1/2 years. Then last week I lost a plane and heli due to signal loss. Turns that over time the lipo output overheats the electronics and then you have lost of signal. Horizon RC is aware of this is have numerous warnings about lipos being used in JR and Spektrum radios. It would cost $250 to repair my DX7. I just decided to upgrade to a JR 9503.
Yes, lipos do work for a certain amount of time before the higher output catches up with your radio and damages the electronics. I am not going to take that chance with using lipos in radios anymore, unless the radio is made to accept lipo (the Hitec Aurora Tx is one of those that can be used with lipos).

I considered getting the Hyperion lipo pack for my new 9503, but decided not to so I would stay within the warranty. Before my radio came I ordered the following upgrades:
Sayno Eneloops (http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-Eneloop-Pre-Charged-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B000LNI5VC/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1279312434&sr=1-3)
