I snapped some pictures to help people with their belt drive installation either with or without the axi motor. With the axi motor it is a bit more involved because you have to run a large pinion (18T). If you are running a more conventional motor with a normal size pinion the install is very straightforward and simple.
With the axi the only pinion I could find locally was pretty tall, because of this height I had to make a light ply spacer to move the motor down a bit so that it wouldnt contact the bottom of the belt drive bearing plate. If you can find a shorter pinion then you wouldnt have to deal with this step.
In addition you need to either dremel or carve some clearance from the bottom side of the carbon bearing plate that comes with the belt drive.
So really those are the only things that need to be modified, I would recommend that you try and find a shorter pinion then mine since it would make the install much easier, but if you cant it can still be done.
Pics will follow, another tip I thought I would thow in here is that the stock hex tailshaft the heli comes with is total garbage, for a cheap and very effective replacement head to your local bike shop and buy a 14 guage stainless spoke, it is exactly 2mm and runs much truer then the stock hex shaft.
It may take some time and effort to get the belt drive in with the Axi but I promise it is worth it. It turns this heli into such a tough little beast and is totally worth the time so that you never have to screw with the tail again.
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

Sweet Tabb!!! Thank you!!!
Can't wait to get my Belt Drives from Dave!!
I wish the guy who built the full carbon frame for the Zoom and the guy that does the belt drives would get together. :D

I contacted Dave today and he said that it would be about two weeks before I could expect a belt drive. He is very busy.

Sar, dave has a full frame made for the belt drive in the works, should make it so that you dont have to add much if any weight and have a cool CF frame.

I think I'll wait for that one, thanks for the info :D

WHere did you find out about mounting the servo back on the tail Tabb?
Hey Will, it looks like he just has the tail servo taped to the vertical fin with double sided tape???

Thats what it looked like or hot glued. I found a bunch of cool upgrades at MJP Carbon. Did you have to swap the tail rotor over to the other side of the boom like hte other guy on RCGroups that is running the AXI did? I just started reading the MANY zoom threads there for like 4 hours today. I am going to put an AXI in my #2 Shogun. :) Any other tips that could help me would be much appreciated Tabb.
Thanks in advance!!

They arent really CF frames, they are the pieces that come with the Belt Drive kit to rejoin the frame after the install.
I have been mounting the servos on the tail fin on my Hornet 2's for quite some time. Eric Larson I believe brought about this idea on the micros. Gets rid of the long pushrod and ensures a slop free direct connection. Just my preference, some seem to get it to work well in the stock or other locations
hope that helps

You just Double Stick tape it there on the fin?
Thank you!!! :)

yeah, you can either use a good double stick tape, or goop (shoe goo is another name I think)
Works good!

It looks fron your pics like you swapped the tail rotor over to the left side of the boom when looking at the heli from behind. Does this make the blades rotate downword from teh main rotor instead of up into the main rotor wash like it comes stock. If so does this effect the flying?
Thanks again for even more info. I am going for the AXI!! Now gotta get an 18T Pinion for 1/8 shaft and the belt drive. :) MJP Stuff looks really good as well.

I had it flipped in that pic since I had just put on the belt drive and hadnt switched it yet.
I flipped it initally because of the way I had the pinion setup when using the stock tail drive
The axi is a great little motor!

So you don't need to flip it with the AXI and belt drive? Cool!! :)
Thanks for the information, sorry to be a PITA.

nope, dont need to with the beltdrive, I just flipped it since I was running the tail rotor off the opposite half of the pinion as it normally is.
you are not a PITA at all, I am happy to share the info, will save you the growing pains I had to endure along the way :)

Sounds cool charlie, & thanks for the welcome.
LoL Tabb, they left the door open
Baja, not having to worry about how your gonna land or where because the gears will strip is a great relief, in fact the zoom is second toughest heli to the corona.. It sure makes it alot more fun, (looks at Tabb) but not for me as I have to back to making kits..

weight, hence the name "lite" , meaning lighter. the std mod will add approx 37g or 1.2oz, If your a 3d flyer your going to notice it and want the lite version
