Hi gang,

I just got my HDX 300 kit and started building away. What a nice little bird. I do have couple of questions though, do to the lack of instructions that came with this kit.

The tail seems really hard to drive. Even with relatively lax tension. I followed Finless's video's (thanks a bunch Bob) but the tail seems to be pretty stiff. Is this normal? I would imagine that there is so much friction that in case of a motor failure there is no way that I could keep up any kind of head speed, hence crash. My TREX450SE is like silk.

The other is, although Finless does not show it in the video is there supposed to be any spacer between the top of the belt pully and the bottom of the bearing block?

Last but not least how does one tighten the tail boom mount. I have already stripped out one hex head bolt and the boom was no where near tight enough yet.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Dan

Yea you should but a washer betwee the pulley and the bottom mainshaft bearing.... I told Steve to add this but it may not have been added to to the kits yet....

As for the it being tight... It is a small heli and the head as little mass but it should be somewhat free spinning. Please check all your bearings and find what might be making it tight.

Hi Bob,

Right on as usual. As it turns out the kit comes with two washers that no one makes mention of. I placed one of them between the tail pully and lower bearing block and it was still fairly stiff. When I pulled it apart yet once again and placed the second washer between the upper bearing block and the locking collor it spins like a top now. As you said the head has very little inertia but it does manage to spin nicely now.

Do you have any sage words of advice for trying to tighten up the tail boom?

Thanks,

Dan

Bobs standard answer is to use some scotch tape on the boom end that goes into the frame. I haven't had this problem, my boom tightened nicely, but I hear the tape fix works very well.
