View Full Version : Using a Stratus for FA, best gyro?

I already have one Stratus that is a 3D setup and although I initially used the GY611 due to drifting issues I changed to the CSM720 and am far happier with it on this machine although I feel that mounting system may be the main reason why.
I am now setting up a second machine for FAI and was wondering what the preferred gyro is for this type of flying?or should I stick with the 720?

I run the GY611 on my (vibrating) Stratus and could not stop the gyro from drifting with the standard 2 Futaba pads even when relocating it to the battery tray - but after your suggestion to use the CSM Mounting kit I've had no drift issues at all! I went back to the Futaba pads as an experiment a week ago and she drifted like crazy so I went back to the CSM pads right away.
This is hearsay from a friend that knows what he's talking about - but he just changed from the GY601 to the CSM720 because the CSM720 is said to give a more constant piro rate than the GY601 or even GY611.
Doesn't help answer your FAI question though. :dontknow

I have 601 in my FAI ship with CSM tape. Works flawless. No drift at all.

From what I have heard the CSM tape is built that way that it will absorb motor vibes (kHz) better than other foam tapes.
And it seems to be that way :)

I use the 3M Double Sided Vinyl Foam Tape # 4408. This is the same double sided tape that MA and ACE sells. That is all I have used for the last 10 years.
