View Full Version : Ran into any legal questions?
Notwithstanding any issues of safety, has anyone run across a law against flying RC in a given area?
A guy I know is claiming that flying RC is "illegal" in Chicago...
Not that I'm planning to go flying in Chicago...but I've not heard of local restrictions like that.

Well, if you're flying within the FAA Advisory Circular 97-1, it isn't illegal.
You don't necessarily need permission to fly over someone's property, but you do need permission from the property owner for the property you launch from.
Some cities do have ordinances that may restrict flying RC aircraft at city owned parks.
Now, if you're flying within the Class B airspace around Chicago O'Hare or Midway, technically, it might not be "illegal", but it surely is a bad idea. And the FAA will think so too. :D
