Yeah, that poor guy was very very lucky....its a good reminder to all of us not to get complacent, our hobby can be dangerous!...Though its reassuring to know that fishing is still the most dangerous hobby.

Wow... other than the death I read about by a heli in Texas, this is the worst injury I have ever read about.

SCARY!

Not from wood blades though, maybe if you did it at the XFC with Youngblood radix blades, of course you would probably be dead then,

Just out of interest Wayne - why is the picture graphic? I mean, it's just a person with stitches and a black eye? Purely out of interest of course - just curious to understand how other people perceive things.

For me - a human body is just that, cut, broken, or what-not. It's still a body, we all have one. And sometimes it gets damaged.

I'd understand resrvations, if say, it showed open wounds, which would probably make the squeemish turn pale, but it's "just" sticthes and bruises - nothing graphic in my mind...

Imagine a 10 year old you know seeing something of that nature.. The image can be disturbing, and we do have several users here under 15.
the image did not bother me, I'd rather not offend someone's child.

Strictly my opinion here... but with the younger kids getting into flying its a good thing for them to see. If they are old enough to play here they are old enough to see the consequences of when things go bad. Its up to their parents to decide if they can handle it, and there isn't anyway to seperate the risks and the rewards.

My two cents

point taken. What of the young (ish) father with a lil one looking and seeing the picture?
did your kids see something and wake up from a nightmare afterwards?
Besides, there are some people squeamish about stuff like this. Just trying to be considerate of others.

theres worse than that on the news , and even on most kid's cartoon shows ...

I posted it to be a warning in itself ; cant see any point in warning about a warning ...... :arggg: :arggg:

Heck, chicks dig scars. This guy's probably jazzed that he's lookin' better than ever

But in all seriousness, that looks like it might've been awfully scary.

I see your reasoning Wayne, though I don't really agree. As a child I was never shielded from nudity or scars. I wasn't allowed to watch horrors or smut of course, but I was taught from the start that bodies are just bodies.

I imagine a kid looking at the unfortunate heli chap will just think "cool! - Frankenstein!" (no offnece to the chap in question).

No mate - it's called an adult discussion where one person asks another how he forms his opinions. It's interesting and it's how we all learn about the people who live around us.

In this country, most people try to shield their kids from graphic stuff and nudity. It is the norm over here and that is why Wayne brought it up. If the news or anyone shows pics like that in the USA, they warn that the pics may be graphic, it is the norm. I saw a disclaimer on the news this morning about something similar.

Is this the 100% right way to raise you children.... maybe not, but it is the norm in the USA..

Who is the backchat. ;)

Exactly Dodgey, that is the whole point of this discussion place called HeliFreak.com. We can agree to disagree and still keep it respectful and productive.

Man that pic looks like it hurt like hell!!! Lucky it missed his eyes as well.

This is exactly why I didn't go out for the Goalie position on our R/C heli team.

I reckon I'd still be crying if it had hit me, it didnt miss me by much ;; but the victim was apologizing to the rest of us for stuffing up our flying day , even as we were waiting for the ambulance to arrive... he was back flying in a week ....

It might help a little to know what actually happened! Was he hovering inverted, practicing flips, or like the post implies to me that a woodie came loose and hit him? Just showing a picture gets your mind on safety, but in the oil field, we post how, so maybe this can be avoided in the future.

Read the thread as linked to in my opening post ....

I can only put it down to a gust of wind that neither the pilot or I picked up on ......

Some are intimating the heli was too close to us , We were utilising the F3C square for orientation, the heli was over the left rear corner, we were 2m off the side , so it was at least 6m away a split second before the impact , As I've said , I didnt think a heli could skid sideways so fast, there was no bank at all ....That's what makes me think wind ........

WOW that must have been incredible scary to see all that unfold in person. MAN!

How did you stop the bleeding before the ambulance got there Peter?
