Hmmmm. I wonder if they're related to Stongate up here....the one up here built our house (we didn't commission it - we bought it "just built")

just found out that the building commissioner and the part owner of this company are brothers. The commissioner even told me that their relationship makes this situation "sticky", that if he bankrupts the company it affects his family relations! now what?

tell him to help get it resolved, or you make it public knowledge that he's using his position to shield his brother's company from owning their mistakes.
get legal aid and go for the jugular.

I am also going for the media, I don't go down without swinging, but what Freak does? :glasses2:

Look to the state agencies first. There should be a state liscensing and inspection division, just go over the locals' heads.
then go to the media..

Front page on the local paper yesterday, they almost had the reporter hushed, then she caught them in a lie! If you read closely, you'll catch some contradictions by the Commssioner, Mike Haller:http://nwitimes.com/articles/2006/10/26/news/porter_county/f9c504ad95da67ce862572130016043a.txt I got a call from the governors office yesterday as well, some heads are finally on the chopping block over this

Will do. Maybe we just expected too much for a new home, what do you think of these?:

damn guy, if I allowed 1/100th of that poor excuse for workmanship on my jobs, I'd be out of a job.
Have the state's building official see the pics of the truss/wall intersection, and the bowed wall. He'd probably love the free hanging truss too.
man.... Maybe I need to be a home inspector?

Yep, we've ran into one hell of a scandle, these guys have treated us like we are just never happy nit pickers, but the photos show it all. The county commissioner issues the certificate of occupancies for his cousins houses, nice set up huh? I just sent my photos to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, for some reason they sre the contact for State Building Commissioner. Because I'm disabled, I do not have enough money to fight this with lawyers, but the same disability rewards me with time, and with time I am educating myself and contacting everyone I can with this, it looks like the time advantage is finally paying off! I took your advice and got the before and after plats, and that's when this thing blew up. Who would think to get the knowledge for something like this on an Aerial Photography Forum? I actually had a sit down with the developer and had to explain to him how the plat designated the ground elevations for drainage, and he has stated that he'll scrape his property, but then his floor isn't 16" from ground, and the builder who owns the other 3 properties isn't doing anything. It's going to be a long battle, but hey, it's windy and cold, and I've got nothing but time!

glad that you are fighting this. there are so many bad developers and contractors out there. good job. hope that things come out in your favor.

I had a sit and re-read the entire thread.
I've looked at all your pictures on putfile, and as soon as you read this you need to rename the photos and gallery. You come across pretty hard, and the title of the gallery could be considered libelous.
The bowed walls and the gap between the truss and wall with light shining through is a definate shear wall failure point.
Now I have to ask, did you buy this home partially built, or ready to move into?
The shoddy workmanship identified in the pictures, did it get repaired to your satisfaction or 'fixed' to make it go away?
I wish I was closer to have a first person look-see, I could probably point out things you haven't noticed.
The pics of the cracked foundation show settlement, check around some of the new construction sites and see if you can find a soil engineer. Settlement such as that is likely from poor compaction, or organic material under the house. (wood, grass, etc.)
If there is an engineer, ask if they have any documentation for your lot. If not, it may be worthwhile to talk to the engineer personally and describe your plight. A soil compaction test and/or borings may show up other issues.
How many areas of the foundation are cracked? Approximate linear footage and describe the area. If it's all on one wall, you would want to test there for compaction over another area.
Homeland Security huh? I guess they had to morph it into another department to get it funded. Sounds odd though.

Wayne- Just saw your post, what parts are libelous? I thougfht if I was stating fact, such as who built my home, here's the pics, I'd be OK, but judges and lawyers look at things differently don't they? Please show me my errors
The home was built, ready to move in. So much has gone wrong I don't know where to start chewing. We are still battling the County for a stop work order to pressure the builder into fixing the elevation problems which no doubt are causing excessive leaching and keeping our property and foundation wet. On the lighter side, the aerials really come in hany, couldn't imagine trying to show something like this without them! They just came out and surrounded our property with 5 catch basins, nothing like putting a sign in our yard screaming "low and wet". Check your pm

Some items were "fixed", such as putting the bolts in on top of the nails in the columns, others were dismissed as not a problem, such as the gap between the truss and wall. They jacked up the kitchen floor so now instead of a dip it has a crown, they came back and ran lag bolts into the laminated triple beam, they caulked the foundation, and finally moved the gas valve, but refuse to move the firedoors or furnace, they say to buy collapsable air filters. Guess who sells those? The company who put the fyurnace there to begin with, no one else sells them! I came off hard because it's been one year and I'm done being pushed around by these a holes. :arggg:

Holy main blades, I just saw how many views this post has! It's awesome to see how many fellow freaks are concerned enough to follow, thanks Freaks :cheers :banana
Too bad there wasn't a prize for viewers/time! An Askman mount, AP2000i, tools of the trade to help fight this!!
Actually the best "prize" is the support from the Freaks, couldn't ask for a better group of friends

HeliFreak has the most genuine group of people. Hardly ever see flaming and the sense of "family" is unique. This means so much to my family, not the material aspect, but the support from people we've never met, without the guidance of people like Wayne Brown who has taken the time to call and discuss this with me, and directed me on how to research and attack, we'd still be at step one.,And then comes Andre!!
Freaks ROCK! :noteworthy

after such a tough year like you have had, I think you deserve a little break. :) I've gotten lot of blessings this year, and I am very thankful. besides, I had a new idea to update the design a bit, so I may need someone to test. :D

Wow!! I just got done reading this,
I feel your pain, I had some foundation work done, they made it much worse than it was but eventually I got it fixed. Took a LOT of phone calls, highering an engineer for 250 to do an inspection, but about a year later they came out and fixed it. Was exactly what I wanted, but at least it was something. I was always civil and stright to the point when talking to them, didn't let them walk over me and eventually got it, so hang in, it will eventually get worked out, and remember, USE the media if you have too, they love this stuff, the fact that your handicapped doesn't hurt your case with them either
Take care, keep us informed!
