The firmware loader I installed from the Spartan website is not working properly, I am assuming. I cannot get it to find the AP2000. I tried it numerous times with no luck. Any tricks?

You need to load the Firmware Loader....

It also could have something to do with the fact that you need to load the drivers for the flash-link maybe???? I will be trying to flash mine today if I get time, did not get to yesterday. :(

Make sure you get the USB Flashlink driver also. http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/flashlink/flashlink.htm It's a common mistake to miss installing that driver. The firmware loader will not find the AP2000i at that point.

If you are running XP, and plug in the flash link, you should get a warning that no suitable drivers could be found if you don't run the Flash-Link pre-install program that loads the drivers. On that plastic bag the link comes in it says to install the drivers and where they can be found before you plug in the link to the USB port. If you plugged it in first, go into device manager and delete it then reboot, then run the flash-link installer then plug in the link and it will be detected properly.
It is a little confusing looking at the Spartan site as there is no mention on the AP2000i page that drivers are needed for the flash link because it is a separate product on the products page. The label on the package is what clued me in.

I've noted that XP will seem to recognize the USB Flashlink when plugged in yet, without the driver, the firmware loader cannot find at which com port it is located.

Exactly Mark, just because XP recognizes it as a USB device does not mean it can carry on the I/O necessary to detect and flash the AP2000i.
