I think one of my favorite new features, on top of all the other great stuff, is blade scraping  I cant wait to test that feature out

Who said anything about blade scraping?

On the huge G3.5 thread over on the KE forums. Shortbus said this, "You can also touch the ground with the heli blades. but if you go to hard the heli will explode! pretty cool." Unless he is mistaken somehow :dontknow

I think he's mistaken. I know of no changes that would make this any different than it was in the previous releases.

Bummer. Oh well, will still be a nice release.

Travis, any luck with the upgrade showing shadows on laptops with integrated video?

No, but I don't think it is a matter of luck to get something like that done. Someone has to decide that we want to do some other shadow technique before it will get implemented.

I gotta keep trying. There are a lot of us out here using G3 on our laptops. It seems a shame that I spent $1100 on this thing only to find that I only get part of my favorite sim features. What is the difference in the shadowing between G2 and G3. G2 worked fine. I prefer G3 but hitting the ground when you don't know it's there is a pain.

RealFlight G2 used stencil shadows. RealFlight G3 uses shadow mapping and projected textures. The technique used by RealFlight G3 requires a card that supports the entire DirectX 9 feature set, including pixel shaders and vertex shaders. It would take some work to get it working, but we could get shadows working with lesser cards.
We could also do a simple hack that displayed a grey spot on the ground where the shadow would be. It wouldn't be as pretty as a real shadow, but it would work.

Is there a way around the periodic disk confirmation? Its quite a pain to go find whatever disk its asking for after my wife has cleaned the office.

No, no way that I know of. Easy way to solve that problem is to keep your disks in a safe place.

Thanks Travis, even a grey spot would be better than nothing. At least you could judge how close to the ground you are. Landing is nearly impossible without something to go by.

Since we are in the asking mood...how about a true trex 450 and 600, and eraptor added in? I figured somebody had to ask.
And a word to some of those who wonder if the sim is worth it, or this is better than g3 and so on...I finally got my airplane (a gift from a friend) up and running today. Another gracious helper took it up and trimmed it, and then gave me the controller. I have never flown before, but everything went so well because of g3. Tomorrow morning I am hoping to take off and start working on landings because I did lots of practice on g3..thanks! My checking account and credit cards say thanl you also.
I am still working on getting a heli, my true desire, but everyone I research does not come with the same RED button my g3 controller has...the one that when things don't go so well, you push it and get a new heli immediately. If anyone knows where I can get one let me know! lol

In real life the red button is the aforementioned "credit card" :)

I doubt they will add the trex 450 because it is in competition with the mx400. Great Planes seems to be somehow linked with HeliMax so I am sure a trex would be very low on their priority list. They haven't even added their own mx450 heli yet. I would love to be proven wrong though :).

I've addressed this question several times. We have to get permission from the manufacturer to be able to distribute their models in RealFlight. Some manufacturers don't want to, and there are others that we haven't asked.
I'm the only helicopter pilot working at Knife Edge, and I'm working to get more of the popular helicopters in RealFlight. I plan on pushing some buttons to get the T-Rex 450 & 600 in there.

I don't think it is a big secret. Have a look at the hobbico (http://www.hobbico.com) home page and you'll see the Heli-Max logo near the bottom left of the page.

I am glad I am wrong then! Considering how big the market share is for the trex 450 it would be very nice to have an official addon for it and I am sure it could help be a selling point for G3. If G3 had an official trex 450 the G3 purchase decision for me would have been much easier and quicker. I ended up choosing G3 anyway because it keeps getting improved with updates, multiplayer, and the enhanced contact behavior and night flying in the upcoming 3.5. I know I would actually buy an addon for the 450. Most other addons don't really excite me because I only fly helicoptors and then only 400 - 450 size electrics. Expansion pack 1 with the mx400 is the only one currently.
Produce an electric based addon with the mx450XS, trex 450xl, trex 450se v2, trex 600, century swift, and hirobo lepton and I would pay double the addon cost!
Imagine going to a hobby shop to buy a mx450xs or trex450se helicopter and then the hobby shop saying oh by the way the real flight G3 has an addon for your specific helicoptor so you can train and be as close to the real thing as you can. None of the other flight sims have an official addon for the helicopter you fly. It would be a huge selling point for G3 and the mx450xs or trex 450 (depending on which one the hobby shop pushes/stocks parts for).

I'm flying a Trex-Trex Lite version, free download, fly fairly accurate. On one model the blades seem to go out of track constantly.

As the average consumer / helifreak... is there something we can do to get them to add the Trex(s) to G-3?
Somehow we should be able to band together and get it done. The Trex 450 has to be one of the most popular helicopters out currently... you don't need a PHD in marketing to know that adding these helis will boost sales for G3. :dontknow

Is the lite version more like the actual TREX? I am using it's older brother (larger battery, must be heavier). Using the lite version is like trying to catch a tissue in a gale force wind.

After spending several more days flying it in G-3, it seems floatly and hard to keep flying in a straight line & drifts.
Need to try different Airframe changes to see if it gets better. Any idea's on changes for improved accuracy without making it to easy to fly?
