Hey guys,

I am setting up a Stratus with an FAI head so I can try my hand at some FAI style flying next year and was wondering which Gyro you would recommend, I had a 611 on my 3D Stratus but could never get it to stop drifting and no matter what settings I tried it stopped nice and sharp one way but the other stop was much softer and less positive.

I currently run the CSM 720 on my 3D machine and have been v happy with it however I dont think it would be suitable for FAI.

So I guess that leaves the 7000G or the 611. I am not a fan of metal geared servos and I know the 8700G that comes with the JR Gyro is metal geared, I am a fan of the 9251 or 9256 servos, however realise that I can not run these with the 7000G. So at the moment I am stuck, do I try the 611 again or is the 7000G going to blow me away. Its a lot of money to muck about with so i want to make the right choice.

Any suggestions.?

I would use the GY 611. Only FAI pilot I know that uses the 7000 is Scott Gray. Can't say it is bad gyro. Scott has had an impressive year using it. There is a few JR pilots using the Gy 601/611.

I think the 7000 is fine, but having set one up for someone a few weeks ago, it is WAY more complicated to understand the instructions, at least the US ones, than any Futaba product. Get the 611; you can have it dialed in less than 15 minutes.

Ain't that the truth. The pisser with the model that I was setting up was that the guy had a 9303 and a GV-1 and a 7000. The available APPLICABLE slots to set the gyro up correctly exceeded those in the receiver. The radio has governor software in it, and they wanted you to use some of the same slots for both accessories, with no option to use others. As is usually the case, I had to compromise both devices to get it all to work.

I think I will go down the 611 route the 7000 sounds a bit of a pain in the arse to set up.
