shooting out in the middle of the desert on a desolate road today..... getting some various shots for my new demo reel and testing some changes to the mount.

About 9 minutes into the flight in the middle of a turn I got locked out for a second. Motor went to zero and down she came from about 50' AGL.

radio came back out of lockout about 5' from the deck. Just enough time for a full flare. I thought for sure it was going to be a disaster. Just bounced a little and came to rest perfectly. Blades still spooling down as I jogged up to it.

Those Vario landing gear are tough buggers.

I think my Deans whip went south. The wire going into it had fatigued over the years. I'll add that item to my "yearly replace" list.

Put a new antenna on it and shot another 3 flights.

Now that's what I call crash survivability!

For the record... this is a desert road that has cars come by maybe once every 30 minutes. Had it been a busy road I'd have not been flying over it.

Damn, you got lucky.

I bent a spindle going in unpowered from about 2 feet. I thought it was a soft hit.

On the other hand...not saying this is the cause...but it was a gohbee spindle. Hmmm.

Nice Dj... As much as I hate to say it, you should post this on crapryder.... This is the first FF video I've seen that shows you can do it from a heli. JO always seemed to avoid the question.... Nice flying and nice save. Glad to see your coming up for air.

That carbon is strrrooooonng!! I've got an Askman front mount on my little Swift and have landed as hard one time. After abruptly coming to rest the mount just sit there holding the camera ready to go fly again... with a smile on its face!

Of course... I'm sure it helps to be DJ and basically a machine flying a machine... :noteworthy

Good job DJ...

thanks guys..... further flights have proved it to be the CC85HV and not my antenna locking out.

I had it happen two more times the following day. Each time it auto'd down fine. the last one I nicked a main blade so I'll replace it but I've pulled the CC esc to send in for service and replaced it with a Schulze.

3 forced auto's in 2 days and the Raptor is ready for another flight! gotta love it.

good landing. DJ.

CC stuff is known to glitch more than Kontronik/schulze. from everything I've heard, ferrite torroid in both esc/bec wires can help. (at least that I what I am running) good flying though. I am lousy at autoing.

Who's got these, anyway?

Plan to check the local hobby shop, but anything special I should look for?
