Here's an often over looked biggie!
Tape in your crystals!
No matter the model, radio brand, or reciever, if it has a crystal, tape it in.
Total loss of control is the result of a crystal falling out, and the chopper could hurt you or others as a result.
I've personally had it happen twice, once on the ground, once in the air too close to me...

Hey Wayne,
I gotta' hand it to you....you are still the only one on the planet unglier than me  LOL
However, your post is a timely one and, as you, "been there, done that....don't want to do it again."
For some of us, right now, due to weather, we are in the "off" season. This is a good time to be going over either the recently "put to rest" birds and the "new" ones, Santa just brought us for the "little" things, one of which you just brought up. If you are still flying a radio that utilizes crystals, tape them in. Also, immediately after a crash, replace the crystal in your receiver. I know, I know, that's a few bucks to replace something that is almost "bullet-proof," however crystals get cracked as well as backing out.
Also, while you are at it during the "off" season, spend a few more centavo's and replace your fuel lines, including your tank clunk lines (both main and header). You would be surprised at what a full season of flying along with your fuel of choice does to the fuel lines.

If you have ever sen Wayne fly... the crystals are probably trying to jump out of the aircraft! Safer on the ground :rolling

oh funny guy huh? hehehe!
I'm the cause of global warming, and the reason we are having so many flying days this winter.
safer on the ground huh? I've gotten 8 or more cases of fuel on a set of blades, and I've been flying with HC so I'm learning and pushing myself.
nana nana nana naaaaa! :D

You are lucky I do not live down there with HC, Marcus, and crew. I would be an expert by now! All the pilots at my field are kind of plateaued. Meaning they know what they can do and what they can get away with. They do not crash hardly ever. The only one still trying to improve is WeCoyote but he has torn up a lot of helicopters doing it.
For instance, I was doing "sloppy" looking rainbows the other day and dared any one of them to do it better. No takers :(

I have 13 acres right outside my office, and another 25+ across the road, I get at least two packs at a time weather permitting.
It's amazing how big a crowd you can draw bopping around for 9 minutes on the deck.. LOL

Roger = I understand what you said
Copy = I heard what you said
10-4 = I understand what you said.
Roger is miltary radio term.
Copy is a CB/Hma term.
10-4 is one of the 10 codes used by police and fire.
Military and 10 codes are used to make it easier to be sure what is said, and to say things using less words.
With a poor radio connection the difference between I understand and I don't understand can get lost.

And, 10 divided by 4 is still 2.5

That's why it is 10 - 4, not 10/4. :)
But you probably see that as 6. :)

PC,
You got it....higher math will get you everytime.
BTW, whereabouts in Maryland are you located. We are down near the Solomons in Lusby.....we are "lusbians," however we don't say that too often  I guess it's better than being inbreds from Ridge.
