Upon powering up, my 401 Gyro will flash the rapid flashes signaling initilization then just flash red at slow rate. Forgive me I'm a newby but what have I done wrong? I have gone through the TX and my connections and can't find anything changed. TX is Futaba 7CHP With a FP-R1270F RX and S9254 Digital Servo.
Thanks for your help,
Brent

Make sure there is no trim or sub trim set on channel for. A blinking light also means that a command is being given.

Solid light = heading hold mode
Fast flash = gyro initializing
slow double flash = stick command
no light = rate mode
slow single flash = no signal on channel 5 wire at boot up, or initialized in rate mode

Thanks all for your help. I have tried everything with no avail. The manual says that a "slow flash is displayed when there are no rudder operation signal being input from the transmitter. At this time, the rudder servo does not operate". You need a steady light to indicate gyro is in AVCS (heading hold).
I have setup switch E as my Gyro sensitivity switch with 80, 80, & 70 as the values. For normal, idle 1 & idle 2. Mode is GY. Gyro is on. Rudder input connector is in CH 4, Sensitivity switching connector is CH 5. If I switch the mode from GY to STD in my Futaba T7CHP gyro menu and powerup the gyro ligght will flash rapidly then go steady red. If I move the nose of the Heli no response from Gyro. Instructions note that a steady light indicates that Gyro is operationg in the AVCS heading hold mode. If I change back to GY in my gyro menu and power up the light flashes rapidly then goes to slow flash, but if I move the nose of the Heli I get input to the tail servo.
Also in GY mode lots of noise is tail servo, in STD mode litte noise fron servo. Servo operates in both modes with input from control stick
I have also tried assigning the gyro to another switch (g) with no change. Tried reversing CH 5. All trims are zero.
Any other ideas?
Thanks Again!

Thank you all for taking the time to help me out and the other pilots who are reading this post and maybe experiencing the same problem. What great people this hobby has!
I hopefully have solved my problem. What I had to do was go into the menu on my Futaba T7CHP and inhibit the Gyro. I have it set up through CH5 with it reversed. The Gyro will now power up and go into a steady light. I wonder why it wouldn't work with the Gyro enabled in the menu?
This is what was suggested to me and it is working for now.
Thanks again for your help,
Brent

Page 73 of the manual.
Did you have the gyro menu set to GY type of gyro?
The above would change the precentage adjustments in the gyro menu so they would adjust for AVCS.

Thanks for your help. Sorry this is such a pain. I have gone in and tried to make changes to my parameter menu, but it still must be missing something.
The 7CHP parameter menu is set up like this:
Reset - EXEC
TYPE - HR3 (kyosho Cal. 30)
MODUL - PPM (RX is Futaba R127DF)
Ch5-SW - (my choices for this are -, A,B,D,E,G,H) Does - = null? I have tried both - & E, no change
CH7-SW - Same choices as CH
Gyro menu:
GYRO SW-E)
UP N 80%
CT N 70% (These settings were suggested in Futaba Manual)
DN N 70%
GYRO = ON
SW E
MODE GY
Reverse CH 5 = Normal (Have tried reverse)
I was told to inhibit the Gyro and set it up through CH 5, and it will work in this way. Would be nice to make use of the menu in my TX
Thanks again for all your help and support.

I have the same radio and you do not need to do anything with channel selection. just turn gyro on and keep in GY mode. Up center down is switch position. And A50 means 50% gain in heading hold. You are trying to do what none futaba owners do by setting endpoints and trim on channel 5 to make use of a futaba gyro. But since your radio is futaba just use the menu.

That is what I needed to do is spin the rate up until I got an "A" value. Setting the values as you suggested set it straight. Works great now. Thanks for having patience with me . I'm up to speed now. I definatley know all about every switch and knob on my Futaba 7CHP! I knew it had to be something simple that I was missing.
Mucho Gracias,
Brent

Wow, I'm hitting a wealth of info here today that is helping me. My GY401 when swirched to "rate" is almost uncontrollable, so I just use HH mode. In checking it in the "Gryo Sens" menu on my 9 CAP, I had selected STD instead of GY. I set the values at 61% and 40% and now it seems to work fine in rate mode.
I think I'll shut up and keep reading.
By the way, where do I find the "Curves 101" video from Finless Bob?
