Hi, I'd like to know if anybody can tell me if there is any difference in the contents of Ray's book vs the DVDs.
It seems like 3 DVDs might hold a lot more info than a 220 page book, but I might be wrong.
I just think that if they are pretty much the same I'll go for the book since it's more convenient to brose through.
Any help here???
Thanks,

either is a waste of money.
at least burning the books gives off heat, but it doesn't get that cold in Costa Rics to need heat does it? :D
buy fuel, not books or movies.

I really appreciate your point of view, and I'll keep it in mind but my situation is a bit different here.
I just came back from a fly in (I'm in the UK now) and it was great since it was the first time I had the chance to see people flying for real (there were over 100 helis there, which it was overwelming since the most I've seen together were 2, that is if you count mine!!!).
I made a couple of contacts who gave me great advice similar to yours (buy fuel not bling bling) but when I ask about learning material they recommended a few books which I thought would be a good investment given that most of the time I am on my own and have nobody else to give me advice.
In Costa Rica I know one person that flies a heli (The one that held my hand through my first steps but, with all due respect to him, he is not anythinng close to what I have seen this weekend and while he has a lot more stick time than I do he doesn't have all the answers I'm looking for) so basically I feel I'm learning by myself (and loving every minute of it) but I need guidelines to find answers to the whys and hows of setups and tuneups.
I'm at the very beginning of this fascinating activity and if I was living in the US I would probably belong to a club and join other (normally more experienced) people there who might help with the setup of the model but that is not an option for me so if I want to fly and know the reasons for the mishaps (when they happen) I really think I need to read and learn about hows and whys and this why I thought the books may be a good option and is probably why the people Ispoke to at the fly in (who also understood my difficulty) suggested the books. Thank you for replying to my earlier question, but now you know the situation, would you change your view on my buying the books? Of course it may be that once I have read them I will feel the same as you and they will end up on the BBQ    but it may be that having read them, it will at least answer all the questions that are milling around in my head!
So, after all if only for the BBQ I guess it's books over DVDs :)

your situation is unique, and I suppose the books will have some relevance to them. Keep in mind that not all you will find within the pages is accurate or applicable. If you get the book that says tie the helicopter down and run it to adjust and break in your engine, fire up the BBQ quick!

Thats better than the version that said to hang it upside down from a soccer goal to learn inverted. Now theres a :badair:

Don't worry I learnt to take everything with a grain of salt, that's one of the reasons I like to post in the forums, to get different points of view, and even so I feel like firing up the BBQ with some (very scarce but there) advice I read on the screen (hopefully no one is reading this :wink).
Without no disrespect for who is helping me at the moment, he is an amazing acrobatic plane flyer and everybody at the field respects him a lot, but when it comes to helis I haven't been very happy with the answers I got from him and would like to learn the correct way to do things, so... hanging from the soccer goal actually sounds quite good, and we have two of those at the field, I might give it a try since I'm almost at the stage to start inverted

Go ahead and try the soccer goal trick, and let us know what you learn.
Before I ever got on-line, or read anything about helis, I tried the tie-down trick on a picnic table. It taught me to check the heli over when it develops a new sound, (I'd cracked both blade grips).
