On a dare from Kovar I am making this post..... The difficulty that Kovar has connecting his lipo with a deans plug into his align starter caused me think that there has to be a better way. After looking at his starter I concluded that a PowerPole plug could be installed and would make hook up a lot easier. So I ordered a align starter of my own and set out on the conversion tonight.....

You can see in these first two pictures with the original Deans connector....

You can see in this picture ridges that were meant to hold the deans connector in place... just shave these ridges with a x-acto blade.
This will make room for the powerpole.

Just snip the two deans wires.... And connect your powerpoles....
and you should end up with this.....

and you can see from the final product that connecting the battery will be effortless..... One final mod is required..... The battery compartment door has a retention bump that will need to be shaved slightly to that it will fit between the powerpole and the starters outer case....

If you intend to do this to a new starter please test the starter prior to use to make sure it functions :arggg: and of course this will violate the warranty.....

Blue Skies,
John

I love the way you threw me in on this.... Guys.. ask how he knows he should test the starter FIRST before he did any of this.. :YeaBaby::YeaBaby:

What if I want to use a Traxxas connector? ;) Besides, why would you want to do that when Deans is the BEST connector out there. I mean, why would Align use it if it wasn't the BEST. ;) LOL!!!!

All kidding aside, nice mod and nice pics.

John has put power poles on all of his lipos (the reason for this mod). The starter is dead at the logic board and has nothing to do with his mod. Just bad luck

Just my two cents , you could have just made an adaptor, 2 or 3 inches of red wire and black wire one female deans and your power poles , you can save your original warrenty and avoid taking anything apart .

true, but then how would you run it out of the starter? the compartment is so tight in there you can hardly get a regular lipo down in there... I guess you could have strapped the lipo to the outside and all that bla bla bla...

KF was not going to post about this... I pretty much shamed him into doing so... We all make mistakes...
