Hey guys and gals I need some help putting together a flight package for my T-rex and needed some help. I'd like the kit to consist of mid range priced electronics meaning no $200 Gyros lol.

Im looking for help with the whole ball of wax, ESC, BEC, Motor, Gyro, LIPO's etc. I think Ive got the servos down, Hitec's HS65MG's all around and I know I want a Spectrum DX6 as my transmitter.

Thanks for the help.

Well. for power systems, I think the stock Align ESC and motor will probably serve you well without breaking the bank.

For gyro....don't cheap out. It's gotta be a 401. Look around, you can find them new for $120.

As for batteries, I don't know how you fly, or how you intend to. Apex batteries aren't bad, and they're pretty cheap. They are known to puff a bit as they get a little up in cycles, but we're trying to stay on a budget. :)

Oh, and while the HS65MG is a great servo, I don't think it's a good choice for the tail. Get a 9650 and be happy, or wait for the new JR DS3400G that's designed to be a digital tail rotor servo for the T-Rex. Don't let the digital servo capability of the 401 gyro go to waste.

Hey Trooper Sam thanks for all the information, sounds like a great setup to me. Im a noob so no fancy 3D flying from me anytime soon lol. I wont cheap out, thats a recipe for disaster in my book.

Should I go with a 35amp or 25amp ESC, as far as a BEC goes what would you reccomend.

Figure $120+ for GY 401 gyro. About $100 for 3 - HS65MG. $70 for a couple of DN or Apex packs. A Berg 7 willl run you about $50 - $55 with crystal. Your choice as to tail servo, but Futaba 9650 is $60.

Common advice is to go with 35A ESC. And preferably a 6V BEC.

Go for the stock Align 35G ESC and you can use the built-in BEC. If you want to run your electronics at 6V instead of 4.8V get the Align 35X and you can use the built-in BEC.

No doubt the 401/9650 is the bees knees in gyro/servo combos for the TRex and is your best investment. If $$ are short you really can get by with a cheaper solution for learning and upgrade later when you feel the need. I fly an MKS GY191 HH gyro (about USD$50) which you can use with an HS56 on the tail. It works fine for hovering, mild FF/BF, piros and holds quite well in wind. Even the much maligned but better known Align/Telebee gyros work OK when setup properly, just not as well as the 401.

For batteries the DN ones seem to be a good deal and so far have had OK reviews.

You also have to think about your charging solution. IMO this is not a place to go cheap either. At a minimum you want a lipo charger that can do up to 4S at up to 5A and has a display which tells you the amount of charge put back into the battery. There are some good choices around. IMO an integrated charger balancer is an advantage as it's one less box to deal with, but if not, be sure to get a good balancer too.

The high end is a TP1010 with associated balancer. That's way overkill for a TRex 3S or 4S but you won't outgrow it if you decide to move up to a T600 or other larger eHeli down the track. The eStation-BC5 is a good choice at the low end. Integrated charger/balancer up to 5S with a good display. The CellPro4S is also popular.

Have fun!
