XPS (they are developing plug in modules for 2.4Ghz system on our radios) are doing a survey which radio to support.
He did a demo on a show this weekend, so we now know the system works (sceptics have been many)
Vote for 14MZ/12Z so we get it for our radios as well!

I'm sure XPS already plans on providing modules for these radios. Setting up a poll is probably an excuse to see how many folks are interested to help "set" a price for the product. Personally I'm waiting to see how this works out, i.e. more real-world tests, and also looking forward to Futaba's own solution.

Well, I almost lost my L14 to a PCM lockout today, so if its just a bit better, its enough for me :)

Has Futaba even officially announced that they are actively working on 2.4 system for the 12/14 G3?
The one post on the XPS forum that bothered me a little was where someone asked if the new system will work on the 9Z. The answer was "I didn't know the 9Z had a module".
This does not show someone that is a little bit let alone intimately familiar with Futaba systems.
But then I will probably get one when it comes out to do my own testing, unless the pricing is outrageous.

I emailed them on the 14mz awhile back and one of the responses is below

We will make one for the new radios if there is sufficient demand.
Right now, there are probably fewer than 1,000 of those radios in existance (according to Futaba).

Hmm, curious where they got that number as well. FFC has ~740 registered members. Some, like myself, own more than one radio. And don't forget all the radios sold by Robbe and Ripmax.

I don't know where they got the figures from either.
I do know that there is quite a few more than 800 of the 14MZ/12Z units here in the USA.

If the sernos are any indication there is a pretty big difference between my first and second 14's. Around 2,000 if I remember correctly

Yeah, I have the blank registration form, I've just never filled it out and mailed it. I really ought to get around to that.

Only 1 guy in our group (of 10) has registered his 14mz - the rest of us have just been to lazy (self included). I imagine the same holds for many other places.
I'd be surprised if there are less than 1000 G3's in use worldwide.

Me too...!!
There are not that many in The Netherlands but I know of a least 5 people that got one.... there will be one hell of a lot more!!

Hmm, maybe Futaba is trying to keep XPS from making a product for these radios because they're getting ready to release their own version. :glasses2: :smokin:

Here is link to the Futaba 2.4G stuff they have for cars. Seems like the air stuff won't be too far behind once the 72mhz spectrum becomes useless due to BPL.

I am waiting to see how XPS works out in the real world and at the same time hoping Futaba makes a spectrum setup native to the 14mz. That would be great!!

The FAQ on the XPS website says the 14MZ/12Z modules are in production now. I'm glad I didn't buy that new G3 receiver I was thinking about. :)

Probably not an issue for most, but if and when you get an XPS set up for either the 12 or 14 you will set it to PPM modulation. You will only get the basic 8 channels that are allowed in that mode.
I am also one of the people who is very skeptical about this. I will wait until it is out for a while and been proven in a variety of applications before I jump on board. By then I would hope that Futaba will have brought their solution to market.
My reluctance grows out of remarks like this recently made by the owner of XPS:
"I designed the original system in about 3 hours total time. I had circuit boards made in a 3 day turn and tested it the day after, so it was a total of 5 days. Since that time, I have not had a single "bug" in the firmware. It's a little freaky to me, and I knock on wood every day.
The 6 channel design took about 30 minutes to re-layout."
