I decided to check my T/R hub on my Taig Lathe (good to .0005") Hey I found another problem... Mounted in a collet one shaft was out .012" and the other was .007" So I thought time to replace the hub. but while I had the lathe setup anyway I decided to check the new out of the package tail hub. Guess what ... it was out .009" on one side & .010" on the other :arggg: So my question is has anyone ever checked the runout of the hubs and what is the service limit or tolerance on the runout? I've since straightened them so now there both within .0005" runout but I'm sure this would have caused a problem. But hey I've been wrong before. Any advise here?? Now to go & lighten my piston...I love my Taig Lathe!! :D

Very interesting observation, I'll check a few myself if you can describe exactly how you measured them.

I put the correct sized collet in the lathe chuck & put the shaft into it up to the shoulder. Then I put a dial on the other shaft. With an extremely light tap on the shaft with aluminum I brought it to within .001"

I found a burr!! :D It was in the T/R pitch link that attaches to the blade grip, only one had one the other was fine. The hole of the metal link had a rough ID & wouldn't turn very well as the other one. A quick look under a magnifying glass & a fine round file took care of it. Ya'll might want to remember this one!! :arggg:
