So which is the better camera mount and why? Neither MFG web site provides a lot of imformation on how the gimbal is constructed or how many degres of tilt it will correct.
Thanks,
Mark

I have an airfoil and have been very happy with it and have heard good things about the askman mount as well. I am guessing I have close to 45% of tilt. I don't think I need anymore than that.

Couldn't be happier with my Askman rig, with the bonus that Andrey is a really nice bloke, and offers a very fair crash repair deal (maximum charge is 20% or parts retail price plus shipping). Parts are beautifully accurate
Nett weight of Trex AP mount is 110g which isjust under the Airfoil one (the Airfoil keeps the standard U/C, the Askman one doesn't)
Thoroughly recommended.

Actually, keeping the stock LG seems like a good thing as it would fit in the Align case and you could just add/remove the camera rig as needed using Zip ties.
With the Askman I would have to remove the LG completely each time just to put it back in the case. Is there a nice quick way to do this or must you remove/install the 4 screws into the plastic base? Seems like they would be prone to stripping.
Thanks,
Mark

I have the Askman rig here are some pics from it http://www.helifreak.com/viewtopic.php?t=21558
ITs well made and the shock dampers are very nice, even on my very first outing after getting it all setup I had grabbed the wrong battery by accident(only a quarter charged) and begin to test my height limits. I was about 50 feet up when I heard the motor kick down as if the battery was dying and quickly dropped the heli but lost full power about 20 foot up, did what I could to auto it but it hit hard and had absolutley no damage.
oscillator, you can do what I did on the askman mount and use a drill bit the size of the skidds and drill a 3/4 circle in the main portion of the the askman gear, this allows for the skidds to sit inside of the holes and have the outside of the gear bump up against the main askman upright landing gear for even more security, then tie it off like that so it dont move.

Cryo,
Can you post a photo of how you have retained your LG with the Askman mount ?

please do. if I can add to the design, I will make it a standard. :)
btw, my trex mount will tilt 90 degrees with proper setup. (not that you really need it, but some people wanted to be ablet to shoot directly down)

Real time support! Now that is a great selling point!
So how many degrees of roll will the mount compensate? I watched Nate's video (thanks Nate), but he does such a good job keeping the ship flat I couldn't see the gimbal in action.
Oh, and Cryo, yes, please post some pics of your setup.
Thanks,
Mark

one thing I have found in working with Andrey is he provides real time interaction. If you have an idea that looks like its got some merit he'll look into it and make changes and experiment.
that's the kind of support you want later on after the sale.
I've worked with Andrey on a handful of projects and the process is always smooth as silk.
