Dimensions i used are 2mm from the end with a 5.5 mm opening for the skid
very sturdy with 4 zip ties on it.
here are some pics.

actually, I would hate to cut it there as is due to weakening the join, but I could make it bit taller and put a notch there. so, it looks like it is just inside the peak.

Thanks Cryo. It's one of those things that once you see it it's obvious, but without the pic you might never think of it.
As long as the notch is properly radiused (sp?) it shouldn't significantly weaken the joint.

I don't see why you would want to do this, it's 4 little screws to swap the normal gear for the AP gear, takes me all of about 5 minutes..

I've had several people asking me about this. they'd rather use zip ties and cut it. I tell people they can use thumbscrews if they want quick release. (use rubber washer and it won't slip off) but I always say customer is always right. I will make it bit beefier and make a little notch in the next batch. (I need to sell the ones I already made though)

My only reservation is the added weight. By the time a Trex is loaded up with AP legs, camera mount, D/L cam, separate BEC, voltage regulator for cam(s) plus digital camera, servo(s) for shutter/tilt, weight can get up over 1000g pretty easily, so 25 odd g for the original U/C seems a luxury to me.
Maybe my 169g digital cam would have to go, but I like 8.1MP....
I use my other Trex for general flying and as a backup for AP

Well the Z-850 is coming in at 130 Grams so that puts me under weight sort of, with 13 grams to spare.
My rig flys very well and I dont see how this will affect any strength in the main gear see ing how the skids line up alsmost straight down the main strut shaft, therefore putting all weight when landing in a good line for the main down strut to fortify the heli.
and as far as the 4 little screws, they will trip out the holes over time and that could cause a huge mess if they were to vibrate out with the camera gear on.
