after my forced autos I've had to do recently I figured what the hell.... did a flight today and flew an entire pack shooting autos with my video gear on board. Shot about 10 auto's most of them from about 175' a few from 200+' There was a slight breez which helped... maybe 8-10mph.
my RaptorCam was at about 12lb. This was with some MS Composit 710's. So much control and hang time at the bottom it was super easy. I don't have a driven tail in this Raptor and I'm thinking I may change that.
Anyways... here's 2 of them from today.

btw, my Hacker 12L bearing is what has likely been giving me the lockout issues. It was gritty feeling and it locked me out a couple more times resutling in forced autos. I cleaned the bearing and relubed with hi-temp turbine oil and so far so good... time will tell.
Huh?
What tail setup do you have that's not driven during an auto? I haven't seen a Raptor w/o driven tail.
Nice job on the autos.
Interesting about the bearing. :O Guess I ought not delay checking mine too long.

you must not have ever owned a Raptor V1 :D The main gear/tail belt pulley I'm running on this ship is from a V1 which isn't driven.
Nope. Skipped over them there V1 thingies. ;)
I was out of helicopters before the V1 came out and didn't get back into 'em until my Titan.

DJ,
just wanted to say thanks for posting these. I've come back and watched them several times now. Not sure what it is, the sound of the blades, the flare, the rapid but smooth decent, don't know but it is quite enjoyable to watch. Thanks again!

DJ your crazy, looks like that thing autos pretty good though. I need to pick up a raptor with a non driven to shoot autos with. I'm not as gutsy as you so I don't feel like practicing autos with the fuly loaded Bergen.
As always nice video

I think the driven tail pulls more energy out of the main blades during an Auto so energy retention would not be as good. I haven't experienced a driven tail auto so my comments are only based on theory  .

Good autos, i'v done afew with my Tit50 witch is tail driven. Each time the heli was move foward pretty fast, lost most energy stoping the forward movment. No damage but a nice bounce thoe. I set my eng. kill switch with alot of add pitch, in hopes that the extra pitch will give a bigger flair and less bounce.
