Welcome blobman,
I have over 20 years with "Planks" (as they're called around here). This is my first year with a heli.
A great group of guys here and there are no dumb questions so ask away.
There's a ton of information here and even more weight in guys that will answer any type of question you may have.

Uh oh, you're gonna get addicted...
I became immersed in this world only a few short months ago. I am now on my fourth heli, buying my fourth sim and looking at my fourth radio.
Enjoy :D

I to am new to this addiction and need some advice.
I found a used (immaculate condition) JR Venture 50 with 50H, 401 gyro, all digital servos, and carbon blades. The person is asking $470 for it.
I was originally looking at purchasing a Raptor 50 with the same engine and gyro.
Is this a good deal? How would it compare to the Raptor in the long run? Am I saving up front because of the equipment on the JR, or would I not be happy with it compared to the Raptor? Parts? Repairability? Durability? Flyability?
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated. I can tell you the owner is very meticulous about taking care of his helis, so I know it is in excellent condition.
Also I found a used JR 8103 tx and rx, the servos are not the original ones and are really old, but another person wants $275 for the radio...what do you think? Decent deal or too high considering the servos are not going to be usable. What would be a better counter offer if too high.
Thanks...this site is the bomb!

Mate,
I cannot comment on the heli, but if you have no investment in a radio then don't waste money on legacy 72MHz gear. For $75 more than that worn out 8103 get a DX7 ( http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM2712 ), it will do everything you need for a long time to come and give you all the benefits of the new generation 2.4GHz spread spectrum R/C technology.
If you are sure you want even more features or channels, get a JR9303 (tx+batt+charger only) and a flight pack from here: http://www.xtremepowersystems.net
