I had a miss hap today. While I was doing piro-flips I heard a noise, so I stopped. A second later the heli started to piro by itself. I hit the hold switch, and auto it to the ground. When doing the regular inspection I noticed the tail gear are stripped. and yes they are the latest gray ones.

Yes that is possible. How good was the mesh before the flight?

Mesh is everything Rada. I know it is easy to overlook, and i am so bad about it, fortunatly i have never had a problem with my gears. I had 300 flights on one set of gears, Butttttttt i am very tail friendly.

Always check and adjust the mesh before you fly, and it doesnt hurt to put a drop or two of oil before you start flying. In less you are flying at a very nasty field, with alot of dirt. I always oil my gears just a little bit before each day of flying, and so far, so good.

Hope this helps.

Hi David, after the the piro-flip I noticed the tail twitch to the right before it started piros by itself.
the mesh was as tight as possible yet smooth turning.

what kind of oil do you use, and do you use them on the gear itself.

I use the Tri flo oil. Just a drop or two. i am not saying this is going to keep them from breaking, but it keeps em super smooth. I know the nitro is suppose to keep everything lubed up, but i like my machines clean when i finish, so i bath them in alcohol to clean them, which takes all the lube away. So i just drop some Tri flo in the gears before i fly each day.

If your field is nasty with dirt, then you probably dont want to do this since it will collect some dirt and cause pre mature wear. I watch my gears closely, check them for dirt, and if needed i spray them down and re oil them as often as needed. Sometimes i oil my gears twice a day.

It cant hurt to keep em clean and lubed. Check the mesh, and also keep a close eye on your Delron drive units for both the front of the torque tube and the rear. The wearing of these causes back lash, and puts tons of strain on the tail gears, due to slop. Watch these items as well. They wear as time goes on. And a little wear causes lots of head aches, as you probably know.

I think i have had over 300 flights on my delron before i replaced them, which is freakin incredible service life, in my humble opinion. And even then, they were not worn excessively

Get it fixed, and get flyin. Your gonna be gettin hammered with snow this year from the looks of it.

Here to help ya, if i can.
