Guys,
Just sent Julian at Flight Power an email checking the stock status of the FPEX packs cuz I wanted a couple more packs and check out what he sent back. Looks like they're on the cutting edge of things. I'm gonna order some of these and see how this setup works. Pretty damn cool!

"FlightPower UK is delighted to announce its FPEX2 automatic Lithium Polymer
Pack Balancing System.

(see attached image: A FlightPower Extreme Carbon 4s2p 5000mAh pack at the
end of the charge cycle, note 4 out of the 5 red LED's are blinking).

With the new FPEX2 automatic charge-safety, cell matching and pack balancing
system, packs are re-matched and balanced at the end of every charge. The
process maintains peak performance and durability in high discharge
applications and protects the pack for maximum cycle life. The system also
prevents overcharging of individual cells in a pack and can help warn of
invisible damage, virtually eliminating the main safety concern with the
lithium polymer cell type.

Additionally no heavy cells or internal circuitry is deployed in the battery
meaning ultimate power to weight ratio is maintained.

The interface for this system (rainbow lead and IDC plug) will now be fitted
all new FPEX-C (FlightPower Extreme Carbon) high performance battery packs
that we ship from now on.

The optional FPEX2 3s-5s "dongle" contains the high-precision circuitry that
completes the system. This device operates in parallel with each cell in the
pack to bypass fully charged cells while undercharged cells continue to be
topped up to an identical state. Charging still takes place via the main
leads using a Li-Po charger. Uniquely, the FPEX2 charge balancing system is
fully compatible with the popular Schulze Chamaleon range of Li-Po chargers.

A customer with multiple FPEX2-C packs of 3s 4s or 5s can use a single
"dongle" to re-balance all of his packs, however for maximum convenience,
safety-reassurance and for series charging of multiple packs, a "dongle" per
pack is the preferred option.

FlightPower UK will also offer mating in-line sockets with multi-way cables
and instructions for those wishing to check and match cells manually with
meter and charger instead of purchasing the dongle.

We will soon update our web with this product upgrade and also announce
rates for a retrofitting service to existing FPEX-C customers."

For further information including pricing (Update: £47.50 for external unit,
£17.02 for retrofit work, £4.25 for multi-way connector only + VAT for UK/EU
residents), please contact Julian Cox at FlightPower UK - 011 44 1279 777 111

Kind regards,

Julian Cox, David House and the team

I understand that Duralite batteries has just inked an agreement with Flight Power to distribute the big Flight Power packs and balancers in Norh America. Flight Power will be distributing the Duralite Lithium Ion products in Europe and both companies will be actively pursuing leading edge battery technologies in the future.

It looks like the best in Norh America has teamed up with the best in Europe. It will be interesting to see where all of this will lead but I understand that the Flight Power packs will be stocked in depth in North America by the end of August.

I hate to say this as it's likely to just start a big argument but having Duralite distribute Flight Power batteries is worrisome to me. Duralite is a great company with great service and support but, to me (i.e. this is only MY opinion), their products are very overpriced. Sure, they offer safety circuitry and user friendly features. They also use old technology cells and charge a fortune for them to uninformed users. We NEED competition to get Lipo prices down. Until prices are half of what they are now, I kinda doubt electrics will ever be mainstream.

Scot,
I couldn't disagree with you more. More vendors equals competition and improved products...Competition equals lower prices. You say we need competition, then critcize the one company who is trying to bring that to us!!

How do you know duralite uses inferior cells? Did Emory tell you this? 3 years ago, they got screwed by a vendor who was giving them bad cells, for a brief period in time... the cells they use now are the best available. Emory has been busting his ass trying to find an alternative LiPo source for us, TP has a monopoly on this and with only one vendor in the US, you're not gonna see any price reductions.

Duralites regulators are made here in the US, other manufacturers regulators are made overseas. You cannot question the customer service you see from Duralite. I personally haven't compared prices, but you get what you pay for.

For me its real simple. I want the best product available. I want it to work without having to become some kind of engineer with a soldering iron and when it doesn't work I want to be able to call the supplier and have them fix it quickly without becoming condescending. I am nobodies rep and I pay for everything I use. I think its great that Duralite has stepped up on the big packs. Anybody who has watched the rippers video of the Flight Power packs in an ION has to say that the performance is there.

The product that met those specs used to be (and maybe still is) Thunder Power. I have bought, paid for and still own fourteen of their 5S4P packs plus a couple of dozen of their smaller packs. I am weary of having to be around watching the Thunder Power packs while they charge. I hope that I won't have to do this with the new safe circuitry/balancer that Duralite is supplying. One things for sure, if Thunder Power starts taking a beating from Duralite they will counter with reduced prices and improved performance.

But, as they say, the proof's in the pudding. I've ordered six of the new Duralite/Flight Power packs with balancers for each pack and I'll fly their electrons off as soon as they arrive. I'm going to the Todd/Jason school in Vancouver at the end of the month and will hopefully get an opinion from them as well.

duralites are overpriced for sure, But their customer service is outstanding. I mean we overpay for everything in this hobby, so I try to overpay to the people who will support me when someting goes wrong.

You guys wont be dissapointed with the Flightpower packs :)

Their customer service is great from people I have spoken to and articles I have read. I do have a question though, if they are selling FP packs will they be able to provide the same level of service as they do with their own packs, or will it suffer because they have to answer to a third party with regards to warranty replacement, etc.
