View Full Version : What happens on not so good landings?

There are many answers as to why we want to fly a bigger heli. As I debate with myself and friends around me, there is a myth that I must ask the heli freak forum.
A very trusted heli mentor has said to stay with the Trex 600 nitro, it has all you are looking for and is much cheaper after crashes and cheaper in fuel to run. Both I agree on.
There is one thing I am questioning. He is saying that you have to be very very soft when you land. The weight of the blades on a slightly hard landing is enough to bend the feathering shaft and main shaft. If it's a hard landing it could cause more damage that won't be noticable and you might fly it and have a failure in the air.
What are everyone's thoughts on this??
Thanks

I'd say no. The feathering shaft on the 700 is 10mm, same diameter as the mainshaft on a 600. Remember, stiffness scales as thickness to the third power (cubed).

+1
I've landed mine hot plenty of times practicing auto's, I've never bent a feathering shaft or main shaft doing so.

Hell I had a blade strike and did not bend the feathering shaft (replaced it though, just in case)

Parts costs after a crash are VERY similar between them both. That is unless you totally destroy the heli. (Don't ask me how I know....lol) 700 blades are gonna cost you a tad more, but as you said, so is fuel. You pay the price for flying a fuel thirsty bird, but it is most definatey worth it.
Just do it, you know you want to.
