View Full Version : Pred Canopy Question....

I have received reports that some of the Pred Kits (possibly gassers) are coming with canopys that are not the old off-white (cream) color, but are coming bright white.

Can any one confirm this?

I called Century today but I really did not get the impression that I was getting an authoritative answer.

Please supply all the detail you can in your reply.

I didn't know there was an off white color. All of mine have been a bright shiny white. We might be talking about differences in shades.

The common reference would be your typical Raptor/Hawk/Sceadu bright white polyethylene (bleach bottle) canopy. Also think copy paper white.

The original pred canopies were clearly OFF-White, beige or cream.

i think it would be safe to say that it will come with the bright white canopy. i haven't seen the cream one's..

I agree, i'd expect you to get a bright white canopy. I've never seen an off white one.

I own two off white canopies and I'm in no hurry to buy a third.

If anyone has one of these recent canopies, I'd really appreciate the posting of a close up photo of the canopy next to, say, a color reference like a Raptor horiz or vert fin.

i would say their about the same color as the raptor fin. i wouldn't call that off white though. mabe white.. hmmm, maybe i am color blined :glasses2: :D .. i think i know what you are talking about though. the one's with the winshield cut out is a bit off white but not much. the full face one's are a bit white er though, i think??

Alright...

Thats what I was suspecting. The
(
PREADTOR CANOPY W/O WINDSHIELD-PAINTED
Code:HI6130A
)
...is bright white because it is painted.

The
(
FRP/ Carbon Canopy Only - Predator
Code:HI6130
)

...is still still beige/cream/off-white colored.

Oh well. Until Century smartens the hell up and tells FunKey to switch to a bright white gel coat, RotorGraphics will not likely be supporting the Predator.

The white (painted ?) canopies are the ones that come in the kits. I have 3 of them.

Huh?

How old(new) are your kits?

Exactly which kits do you own?

If the painted white (no windscreen cutout) canopy is the one that is shipping with all current kits, then that changes things. It just wouldn't make sense to design a graphics kit exclusively for an *optional* canopy.

I wish there was SOMEBODY at Century that could speak AUTHORITATIVELY on this subject. The people I end up on the phone with up there can barely speak English much less demonstrate detailed product knowledge.

I have one from the very first batch of Predators. The carbon fiber reinforcement was different from the current version. I have one with the Purple head from this spring. They have all been bright white. I have ordered separate canopies. Must have ordered the painted ones, because they are white. Who knows what they are doing now.

before painting mine where OFF white and the more sun they got the MORE OFF
the white got, a real lousy gel coat. I had one used for 20 flights and when I peeled
the stickers you knew right were they were.

They appear to be bright white when indoors. When you take them to the sun they are a little off but not very much. Rckrzy is right. After being at the feild a few days.
They do fade very fast. Keep you your heli cool and out of the sun as you would yourself. That way your heli doest get canopy cancer either. Use some good wax works just like sunscreen.

I took a look at my canopies that still have some unpainted white showing. They are still bright white. I also realized that they are clear coated. That would protect them from fading. That is probably why I don't have any problems with yellowing.

My gasser's canopy is a bright white gel coat. Never seen the off white color.

The earlier canopys (about a year ago) were off white. All that I have seen lately are white.

My first two P-maxes I bought were the older off white as well. I paint them so it was never a concern but !
The new canopies also have very little seam line like the first did and are slightly lighter before paint. :)

That is another few improvements to note...
