Well this conversion is becoming a bit long drawn and painful.

I have now run into another snag.
The full conversion kit was not available here in Australia and I agreed to instead put it together by purchasing singular items as required.
After the little CF ratio plates debacle I thought that she would now come together..not so.

To double check the correct alignment, I removed the Dampers in the Fan so that just the ball will center the assembly and with little drag should show any misalignment issues.

It clearly showed that the Engine mount does require shaving (as already mentioned here on the Forum..I should have known better).

I have access to a milling machine so this can be fixed.

My question is:
How much do I now need to shave off?

Alfred,

I'm sure i have read that you need to shave 30 thou off the engine mounts if you don't change them out for the YS ones....

Following this post i'm sure it will spark interest form the resident guru.

Thanks David
That's the info I was looking for.
Time to convert this into metric:
(25.4mm/1000)x27= 0.6858 or 0.7mm

119-50 and 51 (8.45) mount has .030 machined off the mounting face. 115-50 and 51 is the regular mount and 8.18 mount.

0.03 inch = 0.762 millimeter

I have had a 2nd set of Engine mounts sent and had them sitting here for this job.
They looked exactly the same as the old set. But having now seen the small difference of .76mm, it became apparent that you wouldn't see this with the naked eye.
So I screwed one of the old and one of the new mounts together and layed a straight edge across them.
Yep, the new ones send are the correct ones.
The gap is now even all the way around as can be seen on the photo.
You can see the Gap tool inserted between the Fan and the Clutch driver.
That's what I love about MA...all the specialist tools designed for MA helies.
Something that other manufacturers fail in offering their Customers.

Thanks for your help guys.

Alfred,
I forgot to mention above. The 8.45 ( 119-50 & 51) mounts have a square hole in the side of them.
The 115-50& 51 mounts have a round hole in the side. This was done because the first 8.45 mounts were just regular mounts with .030 machined off. You could tell them because the mounting face was not anodized where it had been machined.
Once the 8.45 mounts were manufactuered, MA had a square cut out in them instead of a round hole on the 115 mounts.

I recently converted my original Fury Expert (serial #***00007) to a YS 91 ST. I am using the 8.36 gear ratio (11/92) with the short tail (31 1/2 in) and 680mm SABs. This setup does require use of a GV-1 or similar as the short blades can be easily oversped by the 91 but, gosh, it this thing fun. Effectively the only way you can bog the motor down is to give both max collective AND max cyclic at the same time and HOLD it in. There is a minor little problem though, the original 60 size clutch will not handle all the power and will slip, usually at the worst possible time. Since MA makes a HD clutch assembly for the Extreme that will work, it's pretty easy to do that BUT the big clutch bell requires some slight frame alteration as it rubs on the frame otherwise. 15 minutes and a Dremel are all that is required and is well worth the effort.

DavidH,

I would like to try 8.45 with my Fury Expert running the OS 70. I have noticed my current engine mounting blocks have no anodizing on the outer edge, and a round hole??? Could i already have the correct mounting blocks for the 11t pinion and 93t main gear setup for 8.45:1??

David,
If the mounting surface of the mounts has been machined. Everything should be anodized but the surface the motor mounts on. Then you have some of the original 8.45 mounts. The first 8.45 mounts had a round hole. MA just took the regular mounts and machined .030 off the mounting surface. That is why they will have a round hole. That is why the mounting surface would look like it had just been cut off.

David,

With that said; from your experiance - Do you think you are looking at origional mounts which have been machined down by MA to allow them to be sold as correct mounts for the 8.45 ratio?

Yes those look like the original 8.45 mounts. It appears they have had the mounting surface machined from looking at the picture that shows the left engine mounting lug and left engine mount. What I can see of the mounting surface it looks like it has been machined. It would be anodized black had it not been machined.
