Default Futaba S9257 tail servo - will this thing actually fit??

So I just got my new servos and my DS760 gyro should be delivered today. I had to do a bit of filing to get the hs65mg's to fit in the frame, but I finally did get them to fit (wasn't too bad). I'm not so sure about the Futaba S9257 tail servo, though. I'm assuming it must work as I've seen others saying that they're using it on the Blade 400, but damn, this thing is HUGE!! I think I can probably get it in by sliding the mount on the tail boom down a bit from where it was for the stock servo, but I'm not so sure about the control rod for the tail. It's going to have to go in at an angle to be able to connect to the servo arm at all.

Does anyone happen to have a closeup picture of an S9257 installed on a B400? I'm just curious to see how you've got it set up for reference.

Hopefully someone with that servo will chime in.

But on the B400 I had, I used the Hi-tec HG-5000/HS-5083MG combo, and the servo was so tall I had no choice but to mount it on the boom.

this servo is the same size as a 9650, it will fit in the stock location.
you`ll need the side with the arm and wires faceing towards the back of the heli, and you`ll need to shortin the linkage.

Boom mount it. Easier to adjust the belt and you don't have to readjust tail.

Wish I had a digital camera to show mine but I have it mounted in the stock location screwed to the frame and using an eflite aluminum servo mount on the boom. I used a short arm and had to file it considerably to get clearance. The ball is between the arm and servo so getting the rod on and off is a pain. It's on the second hole out. I think I used the cross arm supplied but cut off 3 sides and shortened the remaining one. You also have to shorten the stock servo rod if you intend to use it. Heat the ball link a little to break to the ca bond from the rod. It might take some patience somtimes the glue is stubborn. Measure at least three times (you won't have to remove much) and cut down the rod. Apply fresh ca and let it dry. The threaded end is fairly long but unthread it before you start so you know what you have to work with. You can also get another mount and just boom mount it align style and shorten the rod further. I like the frame mount because you don't have to take the servo off the change the boom. My friend with the camera is in Florida so thats the best help I can give.

+1. Just get another tail bracket and boom mount it. Doesn't matter if it's the 9257 or a smaller one, boom mount is the way to go.

My 9257 is boom mounted with 2 stock plastic mounts. I made a stiffer carbon rod out of tube and a wire pushrod. very stiff. Illpost pics soon with my new colored canopy...

+1 on the boom mount. That is where my ds290g is.

I have the same servo using the stock location. However, I am going to get an additional tail boom mount as mentioned above. I will be able to get a more precise mechanical center for the tail blades.

So do you think the 9257 is a better servo for the tail than the JR 287. I am looking to get a different tail servo and am trying to decide which one to go with. The Futaba is bigger but more torque, but the JR is smaller but alot less torque. Which one is better for the B400.

Either one should work fine, tho if going with JR, id choose the 290 as its the same specs, but $15 less than 287.

the torque difference could be made up by using the chinese wieght mod, do a search, that would make the tail rotor more balanced... thus less of a 'strain' on the lower torque servo... but without testing, i dunno... fwiw
