I'm looking for suggestions on a nice quite muffler that would mount on my Intrepid EB Gasser that is actually available. I know that Chris is supposed to be making one, but it's still not available. :arggg: The Century V3 has been recalled and also not available. I am worried about wearing out my welcome at my flying site if I don't quiet this bird down. :dontknow Any suggestions that people have tried and worked?

Wonder what happened to the V3? I'm with you...wishing Chris would be able to release the Bergen muffler. I did get to hear one. Nice! I don't know what else will work for us.

The V3's were recalled due to welding problems. A lot of them have pin holes in the welds which leak a little
The zimmermann quiet pipe is the quietest i have heard. Try RC Helis Plus and see if he has one.
I have the Hatori #957 and it's quieter than the V3 and stock box muffler.

CPC,
I read a post where you were having problems with the Hatori coming loose.
I am looking at a like new used Hatori fro my Bergen.
Do you still have this problem?
If not how did you correct it?
Thanks

I don't recall my Hatori ever coming loose. It's the #957 which has the stainless adapter plate between the cylinder and pipe and it works well.
The annoying part about the Hatori is that it uses 6 bolts in total and the bolts holding the stainless plate to the cylinder can only be accessed with the pipe removed, so it's a pain when you want to check the bolts during PM.

Maybe I read it wrong. Sorry.
Well I guess I need to make a decision on whether to get it now or not.
Thanks for the PM and the reply.

Mike,
Just stick with the stock can muffler for now. For your flying level, there is no real difference. If you're going to spend money on something, spend it on gas and crash kits. :)

I agree with the gas part! :D
But SHHH! on the crash kits, No Jinxing me!
Although;
I am doubting whether I made the right decsion or not. I love my Bergen, but where I was going to fly and train, I have people telling me how crazy I am starting with a Bergen Gasser. :dontknow So I do not go back.
I guess time will tell.

The thing to ask yourself is: Do they think you're crazy, or are the jealous that you're flying a gasser?
Seriously though, a Bergen crash kit is not that much more money than any other brand for the size. A plastic fantastic, like the Raptor, is cheaper to repair. But as soon as you get up to a blinged out 50 SE or Titan with C/F blades, or a 60/90 sized heli, they're all the same price to fix.
A crash kit plus blades is $250 for the Bergen Gasser. That may sound like a lot, but remember, the people burning nitro fuel in the Raptor 30/50 are paying $25/gallon. You're paying $3/gallon and getting twice the flight time.
It really comes down to the pucker factor. If you don't want to crash, then don't fly. That's the only sure-fire way to prevent a crash. If you want to fly, then suck it up! :) Also, spend a lot of time on the simulator. G3 is your friend. The Gasser in G3 is actually an EB set up for AP duty. I have modified it to respond more like the regular gasser. It still needs some tweaking though.

Hey Paul,
I agree 100% with all your post!
I am not really afraid of crashing. I know it is part of the hobby. Plus that is why I am saving every cent I can to get a back up one.
I want to fly everyday, but not possible at this time. I just need to find a place where I can. Well that is not 100+ miles away.
That is why I spend 3-4 hours a day on the SIM. :D I am trying to finish a Bergen for XTR. I got the one Malorie started and trying to get it done. Then everyone that has XTR can enjoy it.

I have been useing the century V1 muffler for a year and a half and have had no problems with it coming off,(after a few mods.) Chris just called this week, my Bergen muffler is ready for shipment :D (after 2 years) I might be willing to part with it for say $2,000,000.00. Any bidders?

Put the new Bergen muffler on the Intrepid. It is nice and easy to put on and well made. I have not had the opportunity to try it out, A bit wet and windy.
Pics in my gallery.

I got to hear Chris' gasser with that muffler. I'm sure you'll feel it was worth the wait. :D Guess I'd better get in line, huh?
