Need advice on the best camera for a logo 10 setup, has to have RAW, Video outputs, and remote controls.
Was looking at the Optio A20 but it dont do RAW, the canon XTi is a bit pricey and I think too heavy for the Logo 10.
I was hoping to get into the 8 + MP range
EDIT: may have to skip the remote control stuff as there are not alot of options out there

Right now I am looking at moving from the Big Bad Bergen to a Logo 10 setup with my Rebel XT. I believe the XTi is one or two ounces heavier than the XT because it has a larger sensor (I think). I talked with GGoodrum a bit about this and he said it would be ok, as long as you keep the overall weight under 9lb it should be fine on the 500mm blades.

Nitro, let us know how the Logo 10 and Rebel XT work out. I have an XTi and I keep sitting it beside the Logo 10 (stock 500 mm blades) and wondering if theres ANY chance the L10 could be jazzed up to haul it. If you're going to test it with the XT I'll eagerly await your finding. :noteworthy

you can always stretch the logo 10 to 550, but then, it is getting bigger. we are having good result with canon a640. (and 620/630) definitely worth considering. good sized for logo 10.

Rebel XTi = 1.13 Lbs
Askman Mount = Less than 1 Lb
Canon 70-200 Lens = 2.8 lbs (biggest I could find for max weight)
almost 5lbs for mount camera and lens.
RX 7 Grams (AR 6000 Spektrum)
Servos 11.7 x 2 = 23.4 grams (HS 56 HB)
Add. Batt. 2.1 oz (Eflite 7.4 volt 1200 Mah)
Downlink 28 Grams (Black Widow)
AP2000i 25 grams (Including cables or not?)
FMA Sensor (?? no info on FMA web site)
I guesses the oz to gram conversion on both battery and FMA, here is battery 75 g and FMA sensor in at 80 g coming to a grand total of 238.4 g which is less than half a lb
bringing the total to approximatley 5.6 lbs.

Cryofix I think that lens will be too much for the little Logo. I plan to use the stock lens or find a non zoom wide angle to help keep weight down.
Very nice breakdown of the weights, I think I will do that as well just to see if it is worth switching over. I know Gary knows his stuff but I would hate to sell the bergen, take all the time to get the logo setup and tuned then find out it can't lift the camera. That and I'm still trying to decide what batteries to go with...just can't make up my mind.
Lakespinner if you have a Logo want to strap the XT under there and just let me know how it flies?

I will have a better idea later this week/weekend about the max weight-carrying abilities. The assembly below weighs 3 pounds 3 ounces. It is a Canon A640 with a super-wide angle lens attachment.

That should bring the AUW for my Logo 10 to about 8-1/4 pounds.

Gee that looks slick Gary! Great design, simple and effective, no more material than necessary...

This is Andre's (Askman...) design. I've just been helping with the testing and "refinements". :)
I will have more about this later, and will post some pics, but what this does, which is not so readily apparent, is allow the whole strut/camera mount assembly to rotate 360 degrees. It has a continuously rotating servo to control continuous 360 degree pans.
This new 360 Pan-LG mount will come in two sizes, one for Logo 10s and one for larger, like the Raptors, and will be available just as soon as I can get this beast tested, which hopefully will be this weekend.
I have one switch programmed to do a 360-degree pan, at a selectable turn rate, while simultaneously triggering the shutter.
More later...

that is a killer mount! when this beast is refined, tested and released I may swap my front mount for this one! I like it!
Andrey, will there be a carbon fiber version once it's finalized?

I was just using that as a max weight example, there is no reason for that lens in AP unless your doing massive distance horizon shots.
I dont see any reason why the logo wouldnt lift this, the camera is not that heavy at all I was out a Best buy and CC today testing them out and drooling.

Ah ok I was wondering why you would want to put a lens like that up there.

I don't know if I am going to have a CF version due to availability of material and cost. Gary wanted a full 360 pan mount, and I have been toying with this type of design, but I was worried about pan gearing. (damages due to bad landing, etc) there is a simple friction clutch that will should prevent damages to the pan servo incase of trouble. this is a prototype and only one in existence. :) we will see how well it works out. in worst case, we will have to stretch it to 550. as you can see, the camera is in portrait mode at the moment. :)
the raptor version will have legs made from thicker material for more strength, and bigger mount.

Gary how did the Logo fly with that 360 mount?
I still can't decide if I want to go to the Logo setup although it seems like such a better platform for the low altitude quick work I am doing. Anxious to see how yours handled the weight to help me decide

Sorry, I got tied up with the new Raptor stuff. I did do a couple more Logo flights with the 10s pack, but I was trying to get the cal procedure on the ap-2000i dialed in before I tried it with the fully loaded 360 Pan-LG setup. The problem was that it was really gusty and I couldn't hold it in a stable hover for a second.
Tomorrow looks like it will be calm, so I'm hoping to get it in the air with the mount and my A640/wide angle lens assembly. I'll also take some pics of the setup in the morning.

Gary, if you're having trouble finding time to get the 360 Pan-LG in the air, just send it to me. I'll take it for a spin or 2 or 20....
