i went to the field today and when i booted up the 500, the blades started sounding really weird.. didnt even get third way to spool up so i cut throttle and inspected.. was like "man, did they get really unbalanced overnight or something? humidity?".. so i start spooling up again and this time she starts shaking and violently at about 1/4 power and im hearing blade farts all over the place.. i hit throttle hold and walk back over...

turns out i installed one blade upside down and didnt notice.. in the almost three years i been flying thats NEVER happened before and im thanking God I never got her to full power..

what in the world...

It's not your fault, it's the day.
As proof:

I went out into my back garden for a quick bit of hover practice before supper

Turn on the Tx, make sure the correct model is selected, turn on Throttle hold.
Walk over to Blade 400 and connect the battery.
All good so far.
Go back to the step, pick up the Tx.

As I put the strap over my head, I manage to knock off my glasses without which I am legally blind.
Try to grab the glasses, and bump the throttle hold switch, which I do not notice.
Bend over to pick up the glasses and clip the collective.
Hear the musical sound of the mighty Blade spooling up somewhere over there in the blur.
Drop glasses again.
Managed to hit the throttle hold (also switched gear, Aux2, Heading Hold, and Extra Milk!)
Hear the thump as the heli hits the ground.
Put on glasses and look down-range...

Amazingly the heli is sitting some small distance from where I put it down, and facing in a new direction. Little dusty, but no damage. :P

Spray the TOPS of your blades a bright color.. see my pic below.. it helps with visibility and orientation.. and... you can NEVER make that mistake...

Ever strip the main gear while just trying to set up the ESC? :arggg: lol. It took about 5 days to get the replacement gears afterwords. I was not very happy with myself. lol

I attempted to maiden my new 500 ESP with my elevator swash direction reversed. I checked the pitch and ail, but skipped the elevator. Cost me a new front TT gear and tail shaft.

At least I didn't try to fly with the main blades on backwards :YeaBaby: ;)

I was rebuilding my 450 over the weekend after a mild crash and didnt realize I swapped aileron and elevator channels, good thing I checked it with the ESC disconnected before I went to the field

I accidentally fitted the blades back on trailing edge control a few weeks ago, and then spooled up and couldn't understand why as I tried to lift off -- as the swash went up -- heli just pressed downwards on the skids.

So decided to investigate this strangeness: I hit throttle hold and then made the usual stick move, yep, some negative pitch. At that point I may as well have turned off the tx for all the use I was in controlling the situation.

Never let it be said that Slyster is not a very brilliant and colorful guy.

A new guy at our club bought his first heli (trex 450) second hand and had no previous experience. He decided to test it before he handed over the money and once everything was ON he thought it would be a good idea to flick one of the tx switches up. The heli shot up into the air and then straight back down nose first on to the top of his head. After the plastic surgery he now has a hole in the top of his head about the diameter of a trex500 head button and about 4mm deep. This was only a few months ago but he seems happy to share the story.

I had a vibration on my 250 and it took me a while to realize I had two different length tail blades on!

After my painstaking first 450 build that I finally finished at about 2 AM one night, I had the exact same problem when I tried my maiden the next day. Yep, I felt pretty stupid too. Turned it over and was pleasantly amazed that the pile of parts I put together hovered like a dream.

I was spooling up and went into sudden clockwise piros on training gear. After some head scratching I realized my motor was pugged in backwards.

I had my 500 crash and after fixing it, I had not slipped the phasing pins back in their grooves. I'm usually anal about the head, don't know how that happened. I flew 3 packs that way, and was about to give up on anything bigger than a 450 because the 500 was scaring the crap out of me. I found the problem when trying to figure out why the blades were out of track. Let me tell you that a heli will fly with the phasing 30 degrees off, but you won't enjoy it one bit.

i got one for ya ok i had a bad crash with my 450 took it home spent about a few hours fixing it and putting new 65mg's servos in and getting rid of the 2.99 servos i had put in it. yes i know 2.99 servos what was i thinking ok. any ways so after i got it put back and ready to fly i took it out side spooled up and got to full stick and the heli would not move so i hit th and went to zero stick......... heli shot up about 5 feet off the ground.. my truck my dads and my moms wherless than 5 feet from where i was doing this.. all i can say is i foudn out realy fast that my servos need to be reversed

i flew my first month or so with the blades swapped over, they were the rubber training blades so didn't make all that much difference, only noticed when my mate had a look over to check the setup.

Sorry, no stupid enough mistake to contribute yet, but this thread is definitely worth a sticky, thanks guys :noteworthy

Edit: I might contribute after all: I remember once I was testing my 450 after repair, lift off, couple circuits, WTF? The whole rotor flies off. Note to self: the jesus bolt is not optional on a heli

The bolt itself definitely not optional. The nut and loctite may be optional but are highly recommended.:YeaBaby: Ask me how I know this.:o
