just building my first Lepton - got a Hyperion 3025/8, is it advisable to grind a flat spot on the shaft to lock the pinion in place?

Definetly grind two flat spots on the shaft for both set screws. It will save u a headache in the future.

Remember to put the motor in a bag to prevent metal shavings from getting inside.

I did not file a flat myself, but I used a hardened hex tip and carefully torqued the 2 setscrews after loctite. I have 125 flights on mine , no problems.

Flats spots are addtional insurance though.

If the pinion had only 1 set screw I would have done the flat spot. With 2 I have had no need either like 4cyclic.

Did not flat spot my motor shaft either, heli went full idle up in bedroom(on Desk in front of me) JUMPED on it like a live hand grenade(scars to prove) anyhow the pinion stayed solid, but not much left of the main gear($28.95 u.s.) now thats overpriced by about $25!!!
