Hi,

I heard some different opinions relating to the following question. What do you think? Could there be a problem with running in a motor while gov is turned on?

Another question: I'm using the G600 gov by Align at the moment. I know I need an throttle curve for the case that gov is failing. Ok, but do I really need to do a throttle curve with which I could actually fly? Somebody told me that this would have an effect on how my gov works, but I cannot really figure out why.

Best regards, Max

btw pls excuse my bad english

common wisdom is to not break in w/ the gov engaged so the RPM's vary a bit.

the software in some governors use a control theory called 'feed-forward' where the governor looks to throttle *curve* for a hint as to what it should do next vs. simply *reacting* to the obvious slowdown/speedup. it makes for a faster overall reaction.

Booby Watts and Bert Kamerer said that it is ok to tune with the governor on and that is how they do it personally. They also cover a lot of other tuning tips in episodes 1 and 2 of their smacktalkrc videos. I highly recommend purchasing some of their videos on the smacktalkrc.com (http://smacktalkrc.com) website, they are very inexpensive.

Yes, their vids are really nice. I've seen them all... but I'm not that used to break engines in like them, thats why I thought it might be worth the question. However, until this morning (I think 4 o clock am in your time) I didn't knew that there could be a problem with this; because of that I flew the first 3 tanks with gov on, I think its too late anyway. Asked just out of curiosity whether I smashed my engine or not...

Btw it runs pretty well now. Max temp at 85°C (I think that are 185°F), more power than my 50... but my tail is drifting and I don't know why. Maybe its still too rich...

I purposely took a new engine hovered for 1 tank and not that rich but kept the motor warm not hot, it was not slobbering rich either.

2nd tank FF flight with a linear throttle curve 0/25/50/75/100

after the second tank i started tuning for peak performance

3rd tank use idled 1 which is with my gov and did some flips

4rh tank idle 2 gov and started throwing the heli around

this motor fly's so sweet and is running like a champ.

the whole time I was doing this I landed atleats twice a tank to re-tune and check temps as it needed it as the ring was seating in quickly.

your fine on whats going on and your buddy isnt up to speed on a align gov, on a MGP you want a set V curve but not on align, align you want a fall back curve.

On a 90 it wont make to much of a difference because they dont overspeed as bad as a 50 [there not as gov dependant]

Ah ok, thx. So its true that it wont make a difference with the Align Gov... didnt noticed anything anyway. Wow youre not giving your motor much time to run in dont you^^ I hovered the first 3 flights before flying the first rounds, all on a very rich setting.

as long as you're running a bit rich for the first couple flights your break-in should be fine. hell, every os manual says you only need a "few flights" for break-in. i think people that are running a whole gallon through for break-in are over-doing it quite a bit.

Just finished my braking in on my 91HZ and I used the AR 7100/R rev. limiter from the first flight. It did not bother anything, everything worked great and now the motor is tuned for max power output with a nice stream of smoke coming out of it in full climb outs.:smokin::YeaBaby:

I'm at about 1.5 turns out on the high needle and 2 turns out with 3 click in on the middle needle and the power is awesome.:)

the ring did most of its seating on the third flight when i got it up to 200 ish at the head.

I could tell by how many times that flight I had to re adjust the high needle each time I checked temps.

a engine to rich and cold just takes longer to break in, doesnt mean you need to rush it. I think i did a good quick job without waisting time and fuel

I break in w gov at about 4 flight. Main point is getting that ring up to a good temp. If not then ya get stuck with a LAZY engine.

Ya did fine me thinx:YeaBaby:
