I know this has probably been covered hundreds of times, but I have searched and was unabled to find a 3S set-up for a sportflyer. I'm not yet doing any 3D and probably won't be for quite some time. I currently have a Swift and a Trex 450XL. I just bought a Lepton kit and would like some advise on a good 3S set-up. Primarily, I'm looking for motor and pinion suggestions that will give me 1800-2000 rpm HS on 3S, but would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have on set-up.

going with a 4s setup would be wiser imho becuase it would give you the ability to grow as your skills progress. Also, 1800-2000RPM on the lepton isn't a good idea, it wouldn't be stable and would handle like crap. I would aim for a headspeed of atleast around 2400 or above.

Thanks for the info, TT.

What's a good 4S set-up for a beginner? Motor/pinion? ESC?

For the beginner/intermediate pilot, I would recommend getting a Hyperion Z-3025 12T motor, 24 t pinion, and either a jazz 55A or Align 75A ESC. I am running this same exact setup and I get a good 2550 rpm in a hover. And flight times are pretty decent around 8-9 min of sport flying. Don't get the 10T motor because it will not only increase temps, but also decrease the flight times, I'm sure you already know this.

FYI.... I know we all agree 4S is one of the best setups but I did fly a 3S setup that was very 3D worth with a head speed of about 2700.
I even did a flight video of that test. While not that great a vid it does show 3S is very capable of 3D!!!! Why some think you will only get 1800-2000 on 3S I dont know? It's not true and 3S2P can perform pretty well! Why do you think Hirobo supplies a 26T pinion?

This was with a 3025-8, CC speed control and 2 Apex 3S packs in parallel.

I didn't mean to suggest that I would only get 1800-2000 HS on 3S. I'm a newbee with these electrics. I guess I just assumed the HS based on my experience with nitro .30's. Clearly, the electrics are a completely different animal. But, I'm learning. I have only had my Trex 450XL for 2 months and my Swift is almost ready to go. Thanks for the info.
