Got the Actro motor put in the Raptor today. With a pair of FlightPower 5S 5000 batteries in series for a 10S pack, the no load headspeed at startup is 1800. After a minute or so, it drops to around 1750.
I dialed the governor on the CC HV85 down to a headspeed of 1600. The AUW is 14lb 5oz.
This motor leaves the Hacker in the dust. After 10 minutes of flight, the outer case temp was 78, the ambient is 65. I measured a core temperature of 120.
I flew for 6 minutes and landed to check some temps. In 400 seconds of flight, the EagleTree data logger showed I used 1921maH, which comes out to 288 maH per minute.
With the Hacker at 14.5 lbs I was averaging 340maH per minute.
After 10 minutes of flight time, I used 2990 maH.
If this thing proves to be more reliable than the Hacker, I think I've got a winner.

Man....
I was considering getting one of the new Z50 motors with the new core that Gary has coming instead of the Actro as it does not cost as much and is suppose to be very efficient and run very cool also.
You're making my choice between the new Z50 and the actro much harder Mark!

i had a xero g w/ a actro 24-5 in it on 11s that just plain pulled stumps out of the ground. also stretched it to a 690 blade heli and it sure wasn't a slouch!

What blades are you using?

I'm running the FunKey 660 fiberglass blades from Century http://www.heli-world.com/detail.aspx?ID=8057
I'm thinking about trying a set of the 695 semi-sym's with 3 degrees of washout, but they're carbon fiber and $40 more.
Century has a blade chart for the Funkey blades here http://www.centuryheli.com/products/mtblades/index_funkey.htm?currentid=193

The Z50's in my buddies Scalers seem to be working well.
I think for AP though just the track record of the Actro's makes them worth the money.

Yeah, I hear you Jason. Just at half the cost of the actro, makes me want to give the Z a go.
I understand what it at risk, but my camera gear is covered, and my heli would not be a total loss, but there is more than just these material items at risk, someone, or someone personal property could also if a motor goes out in flight.
What Actro's do they run in a Joker? I may upgrade to one of those one of these days, and wondering if this 24-5 would work also, I'm thinking it probably would not.
Thanks

32-3 or 32-4 for joker, depends upon headspeed you want. for maxi, 32-4 for sure. I just picked up a joker 2 with 32-3. very nice heli. quality is amazing. if you see a used one (they are going for about 75% new price), get one.

Scott,
Actually the 24-5 works great in the Maxi-Joker 2.
I put in a 24-5 Heli into my Ion and haven't had time to test it out yet.
If you are running the Maxi-Joker then the airplane 24-5 is also a good motor.
The 32-4 will work well also.
I had one in my Ion and it was a power house for lifting.
I was running about 1650 or so on the Ion and 1600 and less on the Joker.
I actually prefer the 24-5 over the 32-4. I think it runs a bit cooler and is a little bit lighter than the 32 series.
It seemed to put out as much power with a slightly smaller amp draw.

I think the Jokers are nice but in terms of getting the job done they are no better than an E-Raptor unless you NEED to lift 6lb. Otherwise stick with the Raptor.

Ahhh! Thanks Jason. A joker is in my upgrade plans/dreams. :-)
Having an actro that I could use now in the Raptor and then put into a Joker maybe next year would be great and make me want to get it now for the raptor since it is such a proven motor.

Good, good, good stuff. Thanks for chiming in on this.

I agree that well setup eraptor will do everything that most of us need in AP. it kinda goes back to the mega heli setup that DJ proposed while back. before jumping to it, I wanted to stretch out the joker 2 to 830 and see what I can . kinda get my feet wet before going to bigger setup. It is case of taking baby steps.

With the power these days, you don't really need to have such a big helicopter to get the job done. If you have to fly really high, or carry a 10 pound camera, they have their place, but for much of what we do, even a Raptor is overkill. I really don't think a Raptor that has 620 blades even needs to be stretched. Mine has tons of power and the disc is plenty big enough for autos. With today's battery technology you can lift half of Nevada and not break a sweat.
Even my Logo 10 has more than enough power that I'm not even going to bother doing the "stretch" to it to allow 550 blades, even though the AUW with the new 360 PanLG mount and a Canon A640 with a super-wide angle lens adapter is about 9-1/2 pounds.
I've got an Ion, and I thought about converting it for AP/AV use, but finally decided that the Raptor is plenty big enough for me, including carrying HiDef video cameras.

Your running 500mm blades on the L10 with 9.5lbs? Very impressive.

Without the camera and the frame for the camera, this thing hits 2000W peaks. It has gobs of power. :)

Wow!!! A "3D, AP, Stump pulling" setup.

Just remember that even though the power system can handle it the head, airframe and other components might not...

The head on the Logo is plenty strong, especially the newer LLC version. I've never worn one out. :) We've been running 3d setups with headspeeds as high as 2400. Putting longer blades on just adds to the stress anyway.
The frames I'm using are CF, but I can't imagine the plastic ones would be any worse for this application.
