Horrible Tail Wag
It's my first post on this forum, so welcome!
Trex 500ESP is my first heli and since my first fly i've got problem with tail wag. Every time, when i suddenly increase throttle, tail goes right(5-15cm) and after a while backs to last position. The faster i increase throttle, the tail bounces more. Here is video [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VeWDFLp9e0[/ame] I was trying to change gyro position on boom, snap lenght, throttle and pitch curve, gain and delay. It didn't help, maybe a little but never at all. Yesterday i also checked my torque tube and i saw that bearing wasn't glue. I sticked it today, but with no reasults. I've the impresion tt isn't straight at all. Maybe it's problem. I also haven't moved my gyro from tail boom case yet, but i'll try it next week, when i've got tape to it. What can i do yet? Anyone have similar problem? I'm sorry, my english isn't so good yet. Pawel P.S. My tail: GP780 + DS520 |

If the tail only bounce when you do a collective pump, increase the gyro gain.

Not what I call a wag, it's just you are not using a good trottle curve, you are in normal TC mode. With this the motor and pitch are both increasing at the same time the tail will almost always swing like that. In idel up with a straight TC you will not have the problem.

Tail response looks very "soft" which looks like gain reduced to try to stop the typical GP780 tail wag issue.

I had the same issue with the gy520. mine was the servo being slower then the gyro. I had to slow down teh response and add a small delay. either or should help.

Head Speed
What is your head speed? It is hard to tell but it looks a bit slow. The 500 likes head speed and is more stable overall. But I do agree with Ozz58, the wag doesn't look all that bad...

Thank you for replays
Yeah... I use normal mode, and i stopped normal wagging in hover by reduce gain, but it didn't stop bouncing. I don't know what is my head speed, but i was trying to change Throttle curve in normal mode. It didn't help. Now my throttle curve is 0% 55% 80% 92% 100%, so speed is not bad, i think. Maybe I'll try idlle up this weekend. Pawel |

Hi! I have the same problem as you and many other out there with the tail/gyro adjustment..Maybe Align is going to make a "software upgrade" kit, because the problems seems to be in the gyro sensitivity/algorithm etc..I put in my old Spartan 760 to take the tail and the 3g system the swash..Until Align get a solution for this..Works well no..

Idle up
+1 on the idle up.
After you get used to idle up you will wonder why you every did it the other way. Scotty

Hey!
I was trying idle up today. It didn't help!! Heli behaves the same. I don't know what can I do more. |

I've noticed that even with my Spartan Quark gyro I sometimes get a little tail wobble which then settles down. It seems to be RPM related as the battery runs down. I think I'm going to try adding a couple more support bearings on the torque tube, part number H50098. The torque tube is hardly a sturdy item, and I have visions of it doing a good impression of a skipping roap, tucked away out of side. The vibration on my 500ESP is MUCH worse than on my 450SEv2, and yet everything is perfectly balanced, so I figure this is worthy of investigation for only £6-50!

steve, where abouts are you getting the extra bearings for yor TT? can you get them with that rubber thing that holds the bearing?

The part number in my previous post is a link!!!!!
I use skyline models as they are only 10 minutes away from where I work. See http://www.skylinemodels.co.uk/Links...8&cat=0&page=1 And yes... rubber doughnuts are included. Steve

I found that the TT behaves quite well on the t-500, with one two or 3 bearings. However, i found most of the unwanted vibration comes directly from the tail. I tore mine completely apart and have still yet to find the issue. the more parts i take off the vibes go away, but i have weighed every part in the tail assembly and they all match there counter parts. What got me interested in the tail was, for the past couple months my heli has flown with out a single twitch in the tail, and all of a sudden on batt number 2 in the matter of 10mins my tail started to wag, real random. No crashes, no hard landings, just very smooth flights. I keep re-building the tail hoping to sort it out, but nothing yet. I just re-built it last night im about to go out side and do another test run.

Was there any noticeable difference in adding an extra bearing or two?
Steve

I had one free torque bearing so i've added it. No changes. Now i'm thinking, that before my first fly, i discharge my only lipol below 3V/cell. Is is possible to battery lost her efficiency, and it's issue? I haven't got any other battery to check it now.

First, the wag is not that bad. Second, that video clearly shows that you are not running with a flat throttle curve. I call BS on the flat throttle (idle up) didn't help. Post another video with a flat curve but yes, a weak pack can cause the tail to drift out with heavy pitch.
