I had a hard landing (I know some would call it a crash), and I was taking the drive train apart to check and fix things and I had a really hard time getting the main shaft out. Once I got the shaft out, I found the problem to be burrs that resemble the needles of the auto rotation clutch. I have never seen this before so I checked another main shaft I had replaced and sure enough the same marks are there, just not to the extent of this shaft. I also had a needle fall out the auto rotation clutch when I finally got the shaft off. I easily placed the needle back in the clutch. The auto rotation clutch seems to be fine. I put it back on the shaft and it runs smooth and grabs fine. The shaft was not caught on the auto rotation clutch, the shaft just hung up on the burrs at the bearings.

My questions are: How and what do you lube the auto rotation clutch with and should I be concerned that marks/burrs are being left on my main shaft? Should I polish the main shaft to remove these marks?

Two concerns actually, the fact that a roller fell out AND the marks on the shaft.

The autorotation hub bearings should be lubricated with light oil.

If you can feel the marks on the shaft with your finger nail, it probably needs replacing along with the autohub bearings.
