Hi,

I have a raptor 50 with os50hyper-mp2quiet pipe, running on 15% wildcat. main needle about 1 turn and 3 clicks open

the engine has about 50 flights on it, and is running pretty smooth and enough power in a high speed climb. it still has a handwarm backplate(it's pretty cold wheather here now in Europe).

However, my glowplug's(I have one days flying on it) coil has a slight whitish color on it, which I thought meant a slight lean mixture?

the glowplug still works fine as brandnew, and the coil is still nice and centered

Is the color of the glowplug a guide-line for tuning the engine as it is for motorcycles? Should it remain it's original out-of-the-package color?

Thanks,
max

I noticed when running 15% Cool Power I had the same thing happening as I progressed to harder 3D. I've been running 30% Cool Power for about a year and never had a glow plug problem again. Lots o smoke, much cooler, and more power!

I do have a good smoke amount and power. I'm just curious if the whiteness on the coil of the plug is an indication for a poor mixture(even if backplate is "cold" and engine is running smooth)

Check the temp at the end of the flight (just below the head)... If you're around 80°C you're right on the spot (having considered the fact that you do have decent amount of smoke and power)

I have a Hyper in my Raptor 50 SE,I have been running it on 20% for a while but it seems to be a bit inconsistant in the way it runs.A friend of mine who lives some distance away is running the same engine/heli combination says he had the same problem until he switched to 30% nitro and adjusted the mixture to a richer setting. Not had chance to do this yet due to work commitments, but does the hyper prefer 30% fuel to run well?
