REMOVE YOUR BLADES

Ive used an ALIGN RCE-B35X for some time and never had a reason to enter setup mode as the defaults were ok. This morning I had noticed my 450 v2 was no longer using soft start so I dug out the instructions and thought what do all these beeps mean. :thinking
To enter set up mode you connect the battery first and then place the throttle in the highest position and then turn the TX on and go through the beeps.I thought I had entered setup mode ok but actually hadnt. I didnt hear any beeps so I started to move the throttle up and down at which point the esc armed and the heli spun up and promptly flew off sideways off my table on to the floor. If I had been on the other side of the heli the blades would of gone straight into my arm and/or torso no doubt causing a trip to hospital.

Stay safe

Good thing nothing happened to you….

This is how I do it…….
I remove the main blades, and as an extra safety precaution I remove the two front bolts to the plate that holds the engine and loosen the two back ones, so I can tilt the plate and thereby get the pinion away from the main gear (remember to tighten the bolts so the plate stays tilted). This way, if the motor starts nothing can happen.

Hi

Better than remove the blades, you can switch 2 wires of the motor to ESC connection, making it rotate in reverse. Of course, only works if your heli has autorotate gears. If the motor starts, the blades will not rotate.

that's brilliant, going to use that from now on.

I nearly lost the two smallest toes on my left foot by dropping the throttle before the ESC had gone in to setup mode, causing it to spool in my living room while i was sitting next to it barefoot. Ironically the tail blades shredded the instructions I'd been using to set up the ESC.

To enter set up mode you connect the battery first and then place the throttle in the highest position and then turn the TX on and go through the beeps.

Actually that was your problem right there. You do not plug in the battery first then turn on the TX! You turn on the TX, go to high stick and THEN plug in the battery!

Some final points for SAFETY.....
If using Spectrum, ALWAYS rebind your RX with throttle at 0 stick! This way if the heli is plugged in and you accidentally turn of the TX it will not throttle up. Also if you ever loose radio signal to the RX it will cut to 0 throttle.

Finally you should ALWAYS program the ESC and not use defaults, The reason is every radio is a little different on the high and low throttle signal. They drift a little. So you should program the ESC to learn the radios high and low throttle points. A prime example of this is if you have to have your throttle hold lower than 0 to keep the motor from turning. If you power up at low stick and flip into hold and the motor turns with hold at 0 that means the ESC does not know your low throttle. If it also does not know your high throttle properly you may not be getting 100% throttle.
