Well, I got to try my Actro 24-4 in my L14 today.

The frame is too narrow, I tried using shims on the upper part of the ESC mount, I got it to run free, by less then a hair, but when I was trying it, I got something that I can only describe as harmonic "thuds", in a semi high frequency.

It resulted into vibrations in the heli, you could see it through out the whole heli.

The frame at that part is not very rigid in sideways travel so i guess it hit the motor, then started to self-sway forth and back, each time hitting the motor, bouncing off.

Apperently Mikado already have the fix underway for this, they are making the new L14 frame 2mm wider, but for now, I dont know really how to make it work.

Even if I make the space enough, it tends to show up on one side only (stiffness in the CF maybe), Gonna see if I can DIY a "bridge" that you put ABOVE the motor, keeping the frames apart.

How was the motor then:

I got to fly a few minutes before I decided to land before the heli start falling apart.

I had a modest 16T on it (138T main), giving me a hover RPM about 2150 at 95% throttle.

How did it run?, well let me say it this way, Bogging, what is that?
I ran about +- 11 degrees pitch, and I could probably make that 13 or so without the motor would even care at that RPM.

Of course you need the batteries to back it up, I was using EVO 10s1p 3700's

This is the motor i want to run thats for sure.

Sounds good except the vibe problem. We've done it the same way on our 3rd logo 14 ship and it was fine... But of course its a real snug fit

It wasnt my day today..

I learned the hard way the need of securing the RX battery, had the strap with me, forgot it before takeoff though...

Murphy's law took care of it I guess, I changed the UBEC to RX battery to get of glitches before I crashed because of them, instead I crashed due to the RX battery.

Most annoying thing was the CY blades, just a small crack, else they were fine.

Hey that does suck!!! Hey iam running teh 24-4 as well waiting on the Hacker 10 pole not crazy about the 24-4 in the L14 goign to try a Orbit.

Danny what % were you running the 24-4 @ it seems to run the best around 80% but power fades really quick

Took it out until I got figured out how to widen the frame.

Bah, had everything at home except for the darn holder for the landing gear + the esc mount, else I would have been flying tomorrow again :).

Aww man, sorry to see the carnage. :(

mine dosen't rub unless i grab the frames and force it side to side
altho it prob wouldn't hurt to stiffen it up some more. there is no
marks on the motor caseing or on the inside of the frames.
i used a piece of broken tail fin 5mm wide by 20mm long.
drilled a hole at one end and put it between the spacer infront of the motor and the frame. the "leg" sticks back towards the motor (kind of stiffens it). has worked great so far.

Chuck that is the only spacers you used, both sides and only there?

Hi Bobby,

Don't you have that power that my logos have ? Or is it just not enuff :) All I can say is I'm running the 96t mod 1 maingear with 11t pinion so 8.72:1 .. 80% throttle
and it pulls 2400 on the head with 14° pitch :glasses2:

yeah, the carbon from the tail fin was 1.5mm thick, i think from a vigor?
but i think i'll take the esc mount out and make a tapered one that is wider at the rear. the one in it now has the tabs locked in the front but, only part way through the slots in the rear. it dosen't clear by much but it does not rub in flight.

I wish Mikado would have just initially made these frame sets 55mm in width and these silly issues would not exist, oh the pains.

Yeh Shawn, what would be if  Initially it was planned for 5s application, then some Tim Taylor decited to stuck his 10s pack in there

There is a easy fix that BobbySmith gave me to fit larger motors.

I have now about 2-3 mm on each side of the actro!

Install the motor.
Put something on the side of the motors, I used 3.5mm metal bolts, force them in so you get real good tension on the frame outwards.

Now heat the CF and it will bend and when it cools down remove the bolts, and it will now curve nicely around the motor.

If I now just got some spare parts so I can get back out flying (EMS is slow...).

Oh I know it is amazing how we are all likley "overpowering" things and continue to be even more power hungry as time goes on, I guess this is a "you never know" situation, just felt like *****ing I guess, lol. :smokin:

MrMel:
that sounds like a good way to do it.
thanks

Mrmel Matt Botos shared thepopsicle stick idea wiht me @ Ircha se it works great Thanks Matt!!!

Danny iam close iam geared 9.2 right now Hs seems real high about 2300 i would guess but it has good power for 3 minutes motor seems to saturate quick

This weekend we will get some solid numbers on it @ Mulberry FF in Florida
Iam loving My L14 so far i got to get another one Put together

man oh man, decisoins decisions......from what I recall in Dannys video that Actro never really tapered off much if at all,,, but maybe that is just the way it appears in video.

On a totally different topic, but worth mentioning.

On my L14 (which you see crash pictures above), I am using a Century flybar 4x450mm, its very stiff so it dont bend easy.

However, when you crash the double ball-links split open, I guess that is the price when having stiffer flybar :)

But its a very nice drop in replacement if you have upgraded to 4mm flybar.

Here is a picture how it looks after the mod for the motor to fit.

Nice mod ! I now have an Eagle Tree data recorder so I'll hook you up with some amps and watts next time  And tell you how this Logictec 6100T performs

:)

My Logo has been brought back to life today.

I gonna have to put on a extra bottom plate soon with all gadgets I have...

EagleTree logger with Panel, RPM sensor, Temp
FDR with GPS unit and airspeed.

I did move the RX battery to underneath the bottomplate, now secured both with Velcro and straps.

A good tip:

Check these bolts when you have crashed, they bend, and play havoc with the pitch settings..
