I have a Raptor .30 w/ OS.37 and MP2 Pipe. Everything else is stock. Im running 1650HS in Normal mode with -2/5/9 or 10 for pitch in normal mode. Compared to my t-rex and in my opinion I think my raptor takes off upward very slow. Is this normal or is something setup wrong with my heli. My local hobby shop said I need CF mains and like 2300HS. Does this sound safe or like the right idea? What can I do or is this normal?

I have JR DS537 Servos all around except digital Futaba tail w/ 401. I forgot the tail servo model.

Thats not a very high head speed for a 37, try 1800 or so, I run 2000 on my raptor 50 and it climbs like a homesick angel.

2300 is too high. I would scratch this LHS off the list of people I'd be asking for input. Anything over 2000 is really un-necessary.

You can work on engine tuning / performance. The 37 is not a powerhouse, but it should fly respectably.

LOL I missed that part of the post, gawd no you dont need 2300!

Yeah I figured they didnt know much. Um the engine doesnt seem to bog at all. Its almost like a pitch/HS issue. I mean I punch the collective and she revs right up no prob. Ill try raising the HS to around 18-1900. I think the book says 1900 for Idle up.

What does your throttle curv look like. You description of your concern sounds like the pitch increase is greater than the throttle. Like a car going up a hill you need to press the gas pedal harder to keep the same speed or increase (close analogy). Take a look at the throttle curve. As was mentioned above assuming you 550 blades the climb out will be decent. Tough to compare the trex with the 30. have you set any throttle curves for the idle up

Um I set them about like raptor technique said. I have right now 33/40/50/60/100 for normal. I still am trying to get the engine tuned and the numbers right for hover HS.

"Ill try raising the HS to around 18-1900"

What kind of blades are you flying right now? If they are woodies, 18-1900 might be a bit much for them IMHO. Also did you glue the roots as the directions showed?

Stock wood blades. Yes roots are epoxied. The manual says like 1550 for normal and 1800 for idle. I just got the motor tuned up pretty good. My normal throttle curve is as follows. 33/41/51/61/100. I get HS of 1750/1800 at Mid throttle/Hover or 51%. Still seems not to climb very good. Must just be the way they are or Im so used to my T-Rex. Pitch is -2/5/10 for Normal and Idle up is -10/0/10. I havent used idle up yet.

Personal Throttle/pitch curves are very much down to the induvidual heli and radio. etc I'm running 40 at mid stick and it stil over revs.

I wouldn't run woodies at that head speed even with the root epoxied, I'll even be wary with carbon with a brass root insert at 2000 and above on a 30

So what HS would you guys recommend for both normal and Idle up? With stock woods with roots epoxied and then also a recommendation for CFs if I get some.

2000 rpm is fine, get a set of TT carbons or Radix but at your point I'd stick with the Thunder Tiger carbons.

I wouldnt go much over 1700 on wood blades and at that head speed its just not going to scat.

BarracudaHockey,
Just curious about the comment "stick with th TT carbons", is it price or flex or what. My son is banging a 90 around with TT 710 carbons which from my view are ok. Is their anything we should be watching for?

Dont get me wrong, they are decent blades but bolt on a set of VBlades or Radix and you will see a difference if you are flying 3d and such. If you arent flying to the point you feel a difference then its not worth the money to risk a set in a crash IMO.

A really good blade is balanced both length wise and chord wise, they are easy to track, very stiff and auto well. A set of blades with the CG off is either going to be less stable, faster for manuvers but more prone to woof, or if its forward, more stable, less prone to woof but not as aggressive. VBlades are dead on and its the best of both worlds.
