if the one-way bearing in the clutch wears out preventing you from being able to start the engine.
if you find cracks around the shoe area.
otherwise there's not much else that can go wrong with the clutch.

the #1 way is taht you start noticing that on startup, the clutch grabs at much lower throttle settings than what you're used to. That tells you the clutch shoes have 'sprung' or cracked.
