Is there a way to set up a gyro on the bench and test it for proper operation before installing it in the heli with all the electroncs? I am a noob building my first Trex.

Thanks,
Kevin.

Yes,
Just let the gyro initialize after you turn on power to the reciever.
Also the Transmitter must be ON.

The gyro and servo would need to be plugged in to a receiver.

Now twist the gyro sensor to the left or right. The tail servo should move in a direction that should be in a opposite direction command. You would need to determine what direction the servo would be operating to give the proper command when mounted on the heli. I just about setup all my gyros before they are mounted on the heli.

Build what? Looks like a piece of wood with some brackets on it.

it has a swivel in between the 2 pieces of wood that the heli spins on ! this lets the heli spin on the same axis the gyro controls ! and keeps heli planted safely

Until you apply too much collective and the skids rip off. :)

Turntable bearins are available at most hardware stores to make your own.

But why? Using the Finless setup you can do it without ever powering up the main rotor.

Again what is the purpose of the turntable? I can set the direction control of the gyro just on the bench with just power to the electronics.

I don't see any benefit of a turntable in setting up a gyro. If trying to set the gain on the turntable. It will be totally different when the heli is in actual flight.

only way watching the finless video will be that successful is to only use the 401 gyro ! for other peaple that cant afford the futaba gy401 by watching the finless vid they are still up a creek without a paddle

keep in mind i am not downing finless he is very good at heli setup !!!!

i realy dont feel that statement is true ! i dont beleave that the heli in the air would be all that different ! i think that to set the gyro the difference would be minimal

but it was just an idea! take it or leave it ! thats what the helifreak forum is for !
