Ok, I am new to RC Helicopters and just purchased RealFlight G3.5 to help me learn. Any pointers for setting it up or is it pretty straightforward?

Plug in the controller, install the software and pick a heli. Keep in mind that the larger helis are much more stable and forgiving in flight. Oh yeah, use the exponential function as 3.5 is more sensitive than 3.0. The lower switch on the left side is the expo. Put it in the down position. Upper left is the normal/idle-up1/idle-up2. The switch on the upper right is the throttle hold. the dial on the right I have personally only used it for the retractable wheels on the Bell helis. Not sure if it has other functions.

As you get better, use the smaller helis. They are twitchier and therefore make you a better pilot. Turn the expo off when you get good.

Good luck, have fun and welcome to the money pit, I mean great world of RC helis!! :D

The lower switch on the left side is the duel rate switch. This is different than expo, expo takes some of the control away from close to center stick. Duel rates affect the whole control of the sticks from center to full throw.

Really? Wow then I was told wrong. How do I change the expo then?

Thanx

WOW.....talk about information....

I tried to figure out just what all the little switches did...I am teaching myself so this is wonderful!!!

Thanks guys!

zx5go....we are in the same boat it seems....i love 3.5...I practice a bit every day...well I have had it since friday and today I am doing WAY better than Friday. Remember that you can trim out certain "drift" in the heli and remember to use SMALL control inputs...I found that out just yesterday from a post i read here!!!

In RealFlight G3/3.5 the dual rate switch is usaully programmed to apply exponential only. Some aircraft use both a dual rate and exponential on the same switch, and others may apply a dual rate only. You'd have to look at the radio setup in the Aircraft Editor to find out exactly what does what.
