Hey everyone,

I just sold me 700 electric vbar and got a 700N vbar. I got the heli used with about 20 flights on it. I was just wondering what is the maintenance I have to do on the motor?, how often do I change the bearings and things to look for while coming back from the field. This is my first Nitro heli. It has the Align 91H motor.

Thanks.

A few tips ... and I am not an expert ...

1. The nitro will vibrate. I check over the whole heli for loose bolts every 8 flights. That includes the frame/engine/boom/tail ...
2. When it gets hard to start, check the glow plug. Also make sure it is tight when doing your normal vibration checks in step 1.
3. Keep the tank full. It keeps the fuel tank plugs from shrinking and leaking. If you use a fuel magnet it will keep the exhaust gases off it.
4. Bearings. If you fly a lot, like I do, I find the ring starts to wear and loose compression before the bearings go. It becomes hard to start. I get 15 gallons or so, and usually change both the bearings and ring. If you fly less, you should check the rear bearing for rust, say every 5 gallons or so. Just pop off the bottom plate. Rust could easily ruin the engine and require an expensive rebuild. If you are going to store it for a while, you should remove the bottom plate and get the excess fuel out, and apply a generous portion of after run oil. Some run after run oil after each session. My personal thought is the more frequently you run the engine, the less important it is, but if the engine sits for a while, the rear bearing is sitting in a pool of fuel, even if you run it dry, just see how much comes out when you pop off the back plate.

Have fun, I had quite a few electrics, but love the 700N!

I would change bearings and ring now so you know what you have. If not that I would definatly inspect it very well. never trust anyone elses tuning or what they think they have.

huh, change them why?? 20 flights on it, dont matter how long it sat, as long as it was stored well the bearing should be fine.

i say dont even worry about the motor, fly the crap out ot it, and change the main bearing every storage season along with the clunk line/fuel lines. if you are flying it often, no need for after run oil.

keeping the tank full isnt really needed.. i leave a small amount at the bottom to keep my fuel magnet wet, thats about it. never had leaking fuel grommets since april of this year. about 5 gallons so far and the motor runs its balls off.

the Align 91 can take temps up to 220 F after landing. anything more than that its to lean.

You don't know if it has 20 flights on it. It is hear say. Check the ring though the exhaust port and the rear bearing for rust. Start and fly the heli. If it sounds good, tune the motor and fly it.

Get somebody that has a 700N(or nitro anything) at your local field to help you, that's your best bet. Here you're just going to get 100 different opinions on what to do.
