View Full Version : Cline Regulator Durability and Fit on a SZ-H?

I have two questions about the Cline regulator on the SZ-H.

First question, man that thing is tight on there. I had to move my governer bracket to the exhaust port side of the engine. The Cline regulator is almost touching the engine on it's corners. I don't know how good this is for vibration. I'm sure it will wear into the side of my engine block sooner or later. Everyone else experiencing this as well?

Also, how durable is this thing? It seems like a huge weight, hanging off the main fuel nipple, by a small plastic fitting. Isn't this thing going to vibrate, get brittle in the sun and soaking of fuel, and eventually fall off my carb? It doesn't look very durable to me. Looks rather fragile. Any experience on how long it lasts?

Been using the Cline setup on the same Cspec engines for a few years now. I position the carb so that the regulator is just clearing the crankcase. The carb is fairly square positioned in the crankcase.
I don't use the plastic elbow that James provides with the Cline. I just put the fuel line directly on the nipple protruding from the Cline. I then slip about a 1/4 inch piece of fuel tubing over the fuel line to act as a clamp. Never had the fuel line come off.
I would say the only way the Cline will have anything happen is if you crash hard enough to damage the engine. Every funfly or heli event I go to. There is a majority of the pilots flying 90 size helis using the Cline/OMI setup. Has been that way for a couple of years now.

I'm talkin about where the Cline bolts to the fuel nipple of the carb. It seems as though the nipple was modified, and is press fitted, or threaded into this plastic regulator housing. Seems vibration and fuel soakage will make the plastic brittle over time, causing that whole regulator assembly to fall off the carb. Thats all thats holding it on.

Nobody has lost a cline from the banjo fitting to my knowledge. You can loosen the hi speed needle valve holder and articulate the fitting to add clearance in addition to rotating the carb.

I lost one. It was my fault though. I had the HS needle and fitting out and forgot to put it back in tight.

Steve,

Even in this case you didnt have a cline separate from the banjo fitting. You just lost the entire banjo/cline assembly when the hi speed came out.
