View Full Version : Ap2000 slider question

Everything works, on the ground, like it should. Now I'm trying to put the gain on my left slider. I have the 9zwc2 radio. I put a servo on it just to make sure it moves. When I power up the heli the screen reads off/volt. Move the slider and nothing happens. Any ideas? I still haven't mixed a switch with the slider yet because I figured I would get the gain to act right first and go from there. Man I hate this radio sometimes!

I don't know about the 9Z radio, I have a 9CHPS. I had to assign the left slider to the channel I used for the gain on the AP-2000. On my 9C, it was done through the AUX Channel assignment screen.

Like I said, I got that right. I made sure by connecting a servo to it and moving the slider. It just stays in the off position.

Oh! I think you have to go into the setup on the AP-2000 and turn the stabilization on. Then it should work.
When you power it up, step through the menu and there should be a step named "Stab OFF" it defaults to "OFF". Change it to "Stab IRx" (according to how you've got the sensor mounted).
It's on page 9 of the user manual. :D

Ya know, Mark. You guys are so fast with the answers on here that I don't get much chance to offer customer service  . Good for the other users, though :D

It's easy when Angelos has so many satisfied customers......
Maybe we could hit Angelos up for a SPONSORSHIP! :D :D :D
I ordered another FMA sensor on November 8th. I noticed the price had dropped to nearly half! Got an email saying it was in stock and was about to be shipped.
I still haven't gotten it. Emailed them today and turns out they're out of stock and are expecting to have some in by the end of November. :(

Holy Crap, that price really did drop! Good catch. I have several sensors already, but need another ap2000i for my logo.
Wish the price on ap2000i was cut in half
Now that the weather totally blows here, and 5 PM is too dark to shoot, I was thinking of making up an ap2000i setup video for something to do.
There always seem to be a lot of questions of how to set it up and program it which I think could easily be answered with a step by step setup video.
BTW, Mark W. are the ap2000's back in stock now?

Not yet, unfortunately. And I've only got 1 left available for preorder. "Going like hotcakes" is a phrase that comes to mind.

Thanks guys for all the help. I think we need Fineless or someone to do a video on how to set this thing up especailly for my radio. So the problem was I had the switch activated in normal but not any of the other conditions. I was in one of the other conditions! :arggg:
Some days I love my radio, others I wonder why I don't just get the 9C which is a lot like my 7CFutaba that I love! When you set a condition or anything on the 9z, you have to make sure it works in all conditions! Now on to mixing a button, in normal for the calibration, and I'll do it in the rest of the conditions!
Don't know if anyone cares but.... I'm a Century fan! I took my OS50 out of it to put an electric in it because I got a motor mount off someone on RCgroups. Best thing is it could easily have the front mount adapted to it and as a kit, I think the quality is much better than a raptor. But I think I'm going to do like Scott and do an underslung mount on this one.
If you have time, look at the Century Raven kit and compare it to the Raptor. Dollar for dollar, I like the Raven... Just my opinion though!

Another question.... THis is a quote from Scott...
"Ok, grab knob A and rotate it all the way to the left. This should turn your gain all the way off and show 0% on the ap2000i. If it says cal or done, then go into channel 5's ATV's and move up the low endpoint until it reads 0 (this is with knob A all the way to the left.) "
ATV on the radio or on the Ap? I'm assuming radio but I usually make an ass of me and u!

Radio. In your case you would do it for your slider channel, not knob A

Yeah I know that, I was wondering if you adjust the ATV on the radio or the AP. I figured it out... I adjusted it on the radio and now I have 0 to 100%.
I love the FREAK! None of the other BS.

Another question....
If you fly it with the AP off and trim for level flight then turn on the AP and trim for level if needed, what happens with the trim. Does it go back to trim before flipping the switch or would you have to trim again if needed?

If you are meaning to use the calibration feature, it doesn't trim the heli, per se. Activating the calibration tells the AP2000i to use the current IR sensor reading as level. Then when you add stabilization gain the AP2000i uses those values to stabilize the heli.
Now, any time you move the trim controls on your tx it will affect your heli whether you have the gain active or not. So, if you are trimmed for level w/o stabilization and you need a click or two w/stabilization, you will need to return the trim to the original position when you disable the stabilizer.

This is exactly what I was thinking. So I guess you really don't usually need a lot of trim after flipping the switch? I appreciate the help today. I haven't went into stabilzation yet, but everything works and I did test fly a battery pack just to make sure everything is back to normal. Tomorrow will be the test for the Ap2000. I'm sure I'll be kicking myself in the but for not putting it on sooner and spending so much time trying to find a plane for the higher shots. Honestly I like the 150 and below range. I've been trying to find a plane for the higher shots but this might take care of my search. Hopefully. If it works as well as I've read, I'll be kicking myself in the but  !

Depends on if everything is setup good, you are trimmed good and you are in a stable hover when you calibrate. Your gain must be off when you calibrate. So with gain off, trim out your heli, get into a stable hover in the invironment you want to shoot in, then flip the cal switch on for 1 sec, then off, then dial in your gain slowly to check it out. Might need some slight trim after that, but depends on how good of a hover you were in, if you have or need any slight tilt in your sensor to compensate for heli lean when in hover, etc.

Hi guys,
I hope you don't mind if I jump in here to ask a quick question. Can I just double tape the FMA sensor on to the horizontal fin? I was thinking the fin might cause interference by shadowing a couple of the sensors. This even though the sensor ports are somewhat offset. One step further, how about I just do away with the fin as I don't think it really serves any major purpose, and attach the FMA directly on the support?
Mark - thanks for you help on my setup issues. Tested CCPM functions in flight today and all good to go. Ramping up on the stabilizing now.
Gary - and thank you again for hooking me up with the L10 kit. I am looking foward to the stork delivering my "new baby"!

You can do away with the fin and mount directly with servo tape. I believe it was Angelos that posted a pic of his setup where he cut down a fin and mounted to that.
Glad to hear the CCPM testing went well. Provided your sensor settings move the swashplate in the correct direction, sounds like you're ready to go. Glad to be of help.

Reminds me of a classic sketch by Ronnie Barker, playing the local greengrocer:-
Customer: "3 shillings? The other shop only charges 2 shillings"
Ronnie: "Well why don't you buy from them madam?"
Customer: "Because they were out of stock"
Ronnie: "When we are out of stock our price is only one and sixpence!" :)
