You can convert the Fury Basic all the way to a Stratus if you want to. Thou it is really not feasible price wise to do some of the conversions, it is possible.

For the X-cell models. Yes there is kits to go from metal frames to carbon frames.
Pretty much all the MA parts are exchangeable thru the model line. There is some propriotery parts for some of the models.

I have a X-Cell60 1001 kit that is 15 years old and has been and is still going through conversions when the bug grabs me.
One of the reasons that I have stuck with MA models is, that there is no such thing as outdated.

This makes me feel good. I have the X-Cell 60 Custom (serial number 100) from around that same time. Probably couldn't get anything for it, but I still think it's a GREAT heli. It's astonishing to me how time flies.

As others pointed out, MA is famous for their design by evolution, not revolution. That is, their products tend to evolve rather than them releasing a revolutionary new product.

With that said, your choice of the Fury as the subject line heli was a good one. The Fury was a revolutionary change for MA from stacked frames and it was their first eCCMP control system. It would have been a MAJOR upgrade to go from a Carbon SE or XL-Pro to a Fury. It would have been new controls, swash plate, frames, head, engine mounts bearing blocks... you get the idea.

From the Fury, through the Tempest, to the Stratus there have only been evolutionary changes. Even so, the head/tail/cooling shroud/fan/washout etc. from a 1980 vintage 1001 kit will fit and fly a 2006 Stratus (you just wouldn't like it).

In fact, the great thing is that MA still keep parts for their original models. You can still even buy the plastic canopies that were on the first models!

They do supercede some parts, but only where other parts are available to replace them.
